Characters: Rahal, Roog
Timeline: Post Suikoden V, continuation of A little bit further

It was just an ordinary night, when Roog visited Sauronix and asked Rahal to accompany him drinking in a nearby bar. It should have been an ordinary drink until Roog asked him, “So, you’re going out with Miakis, hmm?”

Rahal wasn’t surprised. He knew that Roog would know somehow, either from Rahal himself, or from another friend. Apparently, it had been the second, because Rahal had wasted weeks for thinking about how he should tell Roog. He carefully sipped his drink, “Who told you?”

“Hmm, Lance told me when I visited him,” the other answered before continuing, “He knew from Lun, who knew from Kisara, who knew from Raja, who knew from Maroon, who knew from Toma, who knew from Goesch, who knew when he visited Sol Falena from the Prince himself, who knew from Lyon, who knew from Queen Lymsleia, who found out from, well, Miakis, herself.”

Rahal held his breaths. This sounded bad.

“The strange thing is, I’m living in the same roof with the last four, and they didn’t give me any damn clue, even Miakis! And you know what? When I found out about it, all people seemed to know, even the DoReMi elves!”

“Wait. The DoReMi elves?”

“They’re visiting the town. Cornelio’s orchestra is going to have a concert tomorrow. They sent their regards to you, you know. Oh yeah, Cornelio’s the one translating.” Roog replied nonchalantly as he finished a glass of alcohol in a single gulp. “Dang, since when, man?”

After few seconds of silence, Rahal answered, “Well, since three weeks ago, when I visited Sol Falena.”

“Three weeks!” Roog’s hand slammed to the table. “There’re too many chances in those three weeks that you could use to tell me. And I thought we’re the best of pals!”

“I don’t see why we’re not.”

“Uh, hello?”

“I apparently still love my beautiful face. Who knows you wouldn’t punch me in the face in the spot if I told you.”

“Rahal, do you know how much I want to punch you and beat you down so Miakis won’t recognize you anymore right now?”

“Okay, I give up.” Rahal finally said. “I’m afraid that you’d be upset if you know that I’m courting her. Since the three of us have been so close, I thought…”

“Wait a second, you thought that I like Miakis the same way you do?”

“Yes.”

“Man, I really want to punch you to bits right now.” Roog hissed.

Rahal looked at Roog for a moment before realizing. “Oh… you don’t?”

“What do you mean I don’t!? I should be the stupid one right here!” Roog yelled but quickly lowered his voice down after noticing that the whole bar was looking at them. “I thought we all are just friends! It’s not my fault if I don’t know that you consider her more than that… oh yeah, and you’ve never told me before, haven’t you?”

“No, I haven’t.” Rahal then went back to his drinks. “You see, I just realized that I want her to be more than just friends three weeks ago.”

“Okay, three weeks ago you realized you loved her and you went to ask her that same moment?” Roog eyes’ widened in disbelief. “Until a second ago, Rahal, I thought you were the one who think before you acted, and I was the one thinking with my muscles and hormones!”

“Roog, believe me, I’ve thought before asking her.”

“How long did you think? Ten minutes?”

“Actually, it’s five.”

“Damn, Rahal. You are crazy!” His fist slammed the table for the second time. “Didn’t you put in your consideration that Miakis could have beaten you into pieces right in the spot?”

“I did, Roog, I did.” Rahal answered. “If you want to know the complete story, Miakis asked me to duel that time. He would put me into consideration if I can win it.”

“How the hell did you win from Miakis?”

“Not from Miakis, from a guy who didn’t want pay his bills at the restaurant.”

Roog’s face looked very confused before hesitantly saying, “That… must be an easy win.”

“It was.”

They looked at each other for a while. Roog then grinned as he said, “she must have liked you so much.”

“I thought about that too, it seems that I was not blinded by my confidence after all,” Rahal smiled. “Thanks, Roog. I’ll treat you tonight.”

“You better be! Master, bring us the most expensive drink!” Roog called out, completely ignoring Rahal’s scream of ‘wait a second!’ and added, “Give them for the whole people in here too!”

Roog’s turned and faced the cheering people, “Guys, cheers for Rahal and his new girlfriend!”

Rahal almost thought he’d like Roog punching his face more than sucking almost half of his savings that night… but he then noticed a flicker of sadness in his friends’ eyes.

Rahal closed his eyes in understanding and again drank from his glass. He would let his best friend do what he wanted to, tonight.

The next morning, Rahal’s room was attacked by an angry Flail. Apparently, she just heard from Rania (who had heard from the DoReMi elves) that Rahal now had a mate. She grinked and gronked (complained) why her partner didn’t tell her beforehand.

Rahal held his head while listening to Flail’s protests (who also passed his sister’s in the process) because he was still drunk from the previous night. He didn’t want to debate that it was Flail’s fault to not bother him while she was caring for her egg.

Well, it was his too, because he obviously didn’t tell her when he was visiting her nest… but he was sure he would also have the blessings from his dragon horse and his sister…
