“She wants what for her birthday?” Mohinder frowned. “Molly can’t possibly want a pony. We live in New York City. Where in the world would she keep one?”

“A stable?” Matt shrugged.

“Like we have the money for that. Do you have any idea how much a horse would cost? Why can’t she want something reasonable for her birthday? A Nintendo Wii, or backstage tickets to a Jonas Brothers concert? Those would be reasonable. But a pony? That’s ludicrous!”

“How do you even know who the Jonas Brothers are?” Matt shook his head.

“I happen to find the music catchy with rather insightful lyrics.”

“Says the man who went postal at all the inaccuracies in Cheetah Girls: One World.” He fought the urge to roll his eyes. “If you would have let me finish my sentence before going Bette Davis on me, I was going to show you a picture of the pony Molly wants.”

Matt handed Mohinder a magazine. Circled with several colors of neon highlighters was a picture of a limited edition My Little Pony.

“I’ve got training out of town for the rest of the week, so I need you to see if you can run by Toys-R-Us and pick one up for her, okay?”

_____

“You look like hell.” Elle was never one to be subtle. “What in the hell happened to you?”

Mohinder plopped down into his desk chair. His pants were ripped, his shirt torn, and one sleeve was missing completely. “I got in a fight.”

“Ooooh.” Elle squealed. “Over a woman? Or did someone call you and Parkman domestic partners again?”

“It was over a toy.” He sighed. “I had it in my hands. I was halfway to the register, and then she swooped in from nowhere. The last one. I lost Molly’s birthday gift.”

“What, were you getting her a toy uzi or something?”

“A My Little Pony.”

“Oh, I loved those when I was little. They were so little and perfect, and fun to melt.”

Mohinder was more than a little alarmed.

“But not as much fun as frying the hell out of Barbie. Now, she was always a bitch.” Elle smiled at the memory. “Have you tried Ebay?”

“What?”

Elle strutted over to the laptop and punched in the familiar web address. “Which pony was it?”

Mohinder held up the now wrinkled photo.

“That’s so cute.” Elle smiled. “I’ve got it. Come look.”

Mohinder’s smile faded as he looked at the prices that pony was going for on the auction site. “At that price, I’d be better off getting her a real pony.

____________

Mohinder called in every favor he could think of. He begged Bob for a half an hour to use Company resources to find the plastic pony, to no avail. He talked to everyone and anyone who might know how to get a pony at all, including Bennet.

“Did Claire ever have a My Little Pony?”

“I think so.” Bennet shrugged. “Or at least she did until Mr. Muggles got ahold of it and chewed its’ head off. Or was that Lyle?”

___________

Tomorrow was Molly’s birthday, and Mohinder had no My Little Pony. He did buy tickets to a Jonas Brothers concert, and even managed to get a Wii. But no pony.

He went to work that morning, feeling like a complete and total failure. He’d never live this down. Years and years from now, Molly would tell her grandchildren how he had failed her and turned her down a life of crime and turmoil because he didn’t buy the stupid pony.

On his desk, there was a miracle.

The very same My Little Pony that Molly wanted so greatly was on his desk, a pink sparkly bow on the front of the plastic box.

“Yes!” Mohinder yelled. He picked up and spun around in a circle, a dance of victory.

A small piece of paper fell off the container and floated down to the floor. He put down his prize to retrieve it.

The note explained the miracle.

Mohinder,

Ponies are serious business. Never forget that.
