“Well, that’s a relief.” Chloe said, looking up momentarily from her computer.
“What?” Clark asked, getting up from the plush Isis chair he’d pushed back against the wall, trying to get a little bit of rest as Chloe worked her wonders on the computer. He peered over her shoulder at the monitor. “Did you get a trace on Brainiac?”
“Not quite.” Chloe pushed a few buttons on her keypad and transferred the display from her computer to the row of monitors on the wall. “See?” She motioned, “The Vatican says it’s not blasphemy to believe in aliens.”
Clark shot her a look. “Chloe…aliens do exist.”
“Thank You, Captain Obvious. I have no doubt that alien life exists. Intelligent alien life…well, the jury’s still out on that one.”
“Ha, Ha, Ha. That was so funny I almost forgot to laugh.”
“Seriously, Clark, there are probably a lot of people who no longer have to choose between their faith and in their belief of extra terrestrial life. It might be a big relief to some people.”
“Yeah? Like who?”
“Special Agent Dana Scully?”
“Chloe.”
“The truth is out there.”
“In this context, I am the truth.”
Chloe rolled her eyes. “You can’t handle the truth.”
Just then, the computer began to beep, signaling the beginning of something much less lighthearted.
They had a trace on Brainiac.
