Summary: It isn't true, but Micah wants it to be.

For the last three hours, Micah has been sitting silently on the couch. Not moving, not watching the TV that is still on, showing some infomercial because no one quite has the energy to get up and turn it off. He’s simply staring numbly off into space, waiting for a miracle he knows will not come.

His Mom is dead. It was not so long ago that his Dad died; he knows the routine of awkward silences and casseroles covered with plastic cling wrap. Family members, friends and random people from the neighborhood want to help, but nothing can help.

The door opens with a creak, startling everyone. The person at the door steps into the light so that everyone gathered into the Dawson living room can see their face.

It’s Micah’s mom.

Before he can really process his thoughts, Micah’s running through the living room to his mom’s arms. She hugs him back; and he closes his eyes and simply enjoys the fact that she’s here.

On some level, he knows this isn’t real. His Mom doesn’t smell- not of the usual subtle flower scent that comes from her favorite perfume, nor of ashes. When Micah touches her arm, strings of computer code, zeroes and ones, race through his mind.

Deep down he knows that this woman is not his Mom, not in any incarnation or form. It’s not Jessica or Gina, nor any of the other personas he has met that share his mother’s eyes.

For now, he lets himself believe the lie. It’s better than being alone.

“Everything is going to be okay.” She says in Nikki’s voice. She is programmed to protect Micah, and will fight and protect him with everything in her being.

The fate of the future depends on this boy. Without Micah, Skynet will never come into being. By whatever means necessary, this terminator will assure that Micah Sanders lives to fulfill his potential.
