[It takes a good five minutes of standing stunned in his room away from the fighting for Ceodore to even process what happened. Teleported away at the worst time. He could have stopped that monster. He knows it. There's an enraged bellow from him and he throws his sword across the room to vent, before dropping to his knees. He failed his friends. ( Read more... )

i'm sorry rydia, never as great as my parents, i eat angst for breakfast, more cast drama, taking all the blame, like ceodore doesn't angst enough, attempt to rescue = fail, should not have a sword, angst for lunch too, dinner angst yum

[No way... it can't be true. But it's Ceodore. He would never say something like this unless... it were true.]

...Ceodore...

I... I'm so sorry.

[He's going to be broken for a really long time after this.]

[Adell pauses, unsure what to say or do. Losing two friends hurt, but he could only begin to imagine how much more so it was for him...

Biting back his own sorrow, Adell tries to keep strong.]

...Ceodore. Before you keep saying that it's your fault, what happened out there?

I found Rydia. Her wings had been pulled off. I tried to revive her, but my magic's not strong enough.

...That's not your fault, Ceodore. If her wings were gone, I'm not sure any amount of magic would've brought her back.

[A short pause.]

...Who did it?

I don't know, I didn't see. We'd gotten separated. And when I told Kain...

[...he flipped out and tried to kill Ceodore for being the bearer of bad news.]

[He can't imagine that ended well, know how unstable Kain can be.]

What happened to him?

He attacked me, then just walked off.

When I found him, he was fighting that guy I ran into in the desert a while back.

[...Attacking Ceodore? Really? He knew Kain was unstable, but he figured worst case was Kain just... well, not yelled at him, but something along those lines. But regardless, the second phrase pings his attention immediately. He only knew of one person in this draft who Kain would pick a fight with.]

Desert? ...Don't tell me he was fighting with Yuber again!

[Poor Ceodore had no idea there was any longstanding rivalry or he might have maybe stayed out of that fight.]

Blond guy in black with a red eye. He said he was going to kill Kain and I tried to stop him.

...That's Yuber alright. From what I know, at least.

He's a real piece of work. Why the hell did he wait until then to pick a fight with Yuber? Unless Yuber started it. But in that case, why did Yuber wait that long to start something? He's had several days.

I don't get it. Unless...

...Kain probably wasn't in the best state of mind after what happened. Especially considering he attacked you, and all. ...I have to wonder if he challenged Yuber out of some spur of the moment rage or something.

...But he's never been able to beat Yuber before, even when he was at full power. Why the hell would he think it was a good idea then, of all times? Doesn't make any sense. ...Maybe that was the point.

Hell, I don't know. I'm sorry, Ceodore.

Yeah, me too.

I shouldn't have told him.

[Adell shakes his head.]

No. You did the right thing. Telling him like that couldn't have been easy. But it was what needed to be done. Honestly, it would've been worse if you hadn't, I think. Especially if he ever found out that you knew and didn't tell him.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

[He's very right. Kain would have snapped him in two.]
