Brave and Madagascar 3

Sister, Nephew and I went to the drive-in last night. They were showing Brave and Madagascar 3, and we've been wanting to see Brave for a while.

Apparently I didn't actually know what Brave was about? Though I think the only trailer I saw was from like a year ago when they first put one together. (Seriously, I thought it had come out a while ago! Since it'd been so long since I'd seen the trailer for it. I was all o.O when I learned that it was coming out this summer.)

But yeah, I was expecting a movie based around a princess participating in a challenge for her own hand in marriage cause she didn't want to be forced into an arranged marriage. Which it had that of course, but it was more about Merida's relationship/bond with her mother, and being brave enough to face down her mother (as a person and a bear), and stand against her father and all the men when they went after her mother-as-a-bear. The movie was still good though--though I admit, I was kinda hoping to see more of Merida competing/winning against the potential suitors. --Who chose those guys anyway? None of them even looked like someone you'd want to marry! Which I guess was part of the point, but there had to be some half-civilized guys around somewhere right? Ooh, and while I'm on it, I kind of love that there is no love interest or happily-ever-after dude that she ended up with cause she wanted to marry him instead. The fact that she just genuinely wanted to be free to choose and fall in love with whoever she wants without having someone in mind/already picked out made me love this movie all the more. Though I think it would have been a better stronger storyline if there *had* been decent/civilized guys and she still turned them down.

Madagascar 3... I was kinda disappointed in. I didn't like the French lady that was chasing them all over and my interest kind of plummeted from there. The circus animals were adorable and I liked their sense of family, but...yeah not much to say about that one. (Though my sister said I missed the best part (where the tiger dude did his act, and the show was generally awesome(?)) when I walked up to the bathrooms. It was alright, but yeah, definitely enjoyed the first two more. And omg that song is the most horrible thing ever. Whyyyy does it have to be so earwormy? -_-

We had fun though. And there was Taco Bell and seeing some old friends at the drive-in. (And it totally did sprinkle on us right at the end of Madagascar, but it wasn't enough to even cover the windshield. *laughs* I swear, we should go to the drive-in more often, maybe we'll get out of this drought we're in!)
