In Which I Find a Horse To Beat That is Not My NANO

OH HAI GUYZ. YOU MISSED THIS?

...SHUT UP IF YOU DIDN'T.

ALSO, PICS WARNING UNDER CUT. THEY BE BIG.

Day 18 - Favorite beginning scene in a book.

"This is my favorite book in all the world, though I have never read it."

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Ahem, sorry, I mean, S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure, The 'good parts' version Abridged by William Goldman.

How can you not love a book that starts with that gloriously in-congruent line?

Lots of people have seen this movie and I'm not sure how many have actually read the book. The core story is the same, about Buttercup, the most beautiful girl in the world and Prince Humperdink trying to keep her from her true love.

But while the movie is mostly this story, with the way the story is told as a device, a lot of Goldman's book is about how stories ought to be in, in that he's telling a 'real' story as it should be, not as the reality of it is.

It's a fun book with our basic plot from the movie, but added bits of narration that fill in the back drop and are absolutely hilarious additions.

Day 19 - Favorite book cover

....Pretty much, anything by Jody Lee.

Specifically, I love this cover, to a book called Wild Magic. No, not Tamora Pierce's Wild Magic, a different one. I bought the book purely for the title and the cover art.

...I don't remember the book much, it never captured my attention, so I never finished reading it. But damn it had cool cover art! I mean, FEATHER BOAT! And what is with that cat monkey thing and let's not even start on the creepy bee woman!

Also, for bonus points:

Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey.

Or, like I said to sum up. Anything by Jody Lee. This woman is as iconic in fluffy woman's fantasy as Boris Vallejo is for rippling bare chested barbarians. It's almost embarrassing to admit, but I think I picked up a lot of books purely because they had Jody Lee covers and the woman does gorgeous, enthralling art.

Now I feel cheap. And probably should go finish up my Nano...
