Okay, I lied, guys.
I think my spider companion IS in fact a brown widow. ._.;
They're not suppose to be native to New Mexico, but they've been spreading across the Southern US since the nineties. I just found someone found one in their backyard in CALIFORNIA.
So yeah, I'm guessing my spiderly companion is a brown widow, because that makes a lot more sense than a black widow right now. For one, brown widows seem to pick places closer to humans and places like a window aren't as odd as they are for a black widow. For another, he's very brown. Dark brown, but distinctively brown. Maybe he's still growing and has yet to go full black, but I'm betting he is a brown widow right now.
So, this has some good and bad factors:
Bad:
-More poisonous than a black widow
Good:
-Smaller spider, less venom injected, and the poison stays localized rather that spreading the way black widow venom does.
Bad:
-It's still suppose to hurt like HELL.
Good:
-They're actually more shy than black widows and don't defend their webs.
So basically, as long as it doesn't lay eggs and I don't try to pet it, I think me and my spider will get along just fine.
I'm going to be so pissed if I end up with spider eggs. -____-;
