[Considering the weather's been better, Chikane figures around now would be a good time to work on her baking for that tea party. Admittedly, Haruki is forcing her into it, but a change of pace is always nice, and to be honest... well, a party would feel quite a bit like home ( Read more... )

[Well, guess who's coming in around his normal time today? This has been the first day he's really been able to go out to the barracks and get real exercise without his Mom or Flonne getting on his case about taking it easy. Most of his injuries from Aku have healed up perfectly, though he still has a couple of bandages wrapped around one of his arms and shoulder, but he can probably ditch 'em soon enough.

But then that smell of baking wafts from the kitchen, which is a little unusual for this place. Not that Adell minds, but he'll go sit up at the counter.]

[Adell is always a nice sight, bandaged or not. She practically grins as she comes into the main area, holding a mixing spoon. The bowl, on the other hand, gets placed on the counter.]

Good to see you, Adell.

You too, Chikane! Doing some baking, huh? That explains what smells so good. ...Besides the usual, I mean.

Yes! I couldn't find everything I wanted for the party at the store, so I figured I might as well make it myself. I managed to get a good temperature for cakes, but... well, I don't imagine anyone would be enjoying burnt-bottom cookies.

[Adell scratches his red mane of hair. ...He's gone to Motoko's cooking classes, and he's baked several batches of cookies before for White Day. And those turned out okay...]

What temperature are you baking them at?

390 degrees, I believe.

[..it's about what she used for the cakes, in any case.]

Huh. Try 350. That's what I've used in the past. 350 for 8 to 10 minutes.

[...Yes. Apparently this guy has baked cookies before.]

[Stop being adorable, Adell.] It won't undercook? I can give it a shot, in any case. [And then she bows deeply] Thank you.

[...You know that's impossible. He'll just smile. The bow wasn't really necessary, but he won't say anything about it.]

Hey, no problem. Hopefully it should work. If you're not sure, only bake a few just to test. I think they'll be fine... I mean, the pan's still hot when you set it out to cool, so... that should do the rest?

[As she stands up once more--] I hadn't considered that. That's a great point, Adell.

Well, hey. Hopefully it'll do the trick!

So, how've things been around here lately? Haven't been able to come in much this week, obviously...

The same as always. [she waves a hand, absentmindledly] It's been a little quieter without you around, admittedly.

[Somewhat playfully. Conversations with Chikane are usually something he looks forward to when he comes here, even if they're short.]

I certainly hope that's not a good thing.

Certainly not. Unless, of course, it should be, then feel free to change my answer.

[That'll get a hearty laugh out of him. Whether that was wit or not, he enjoyed it.]

Good! I'm glad. Honestly, I missed coming in here. Staying at home wasn't much fun.

You're feeling better, then? Not just a quick visit?
