As to why I've been notably absent from any and all activity online:

Family switched to AT&T for a spell. It kept crapping out every few minutes so it was impossible to do anything. We finally switched back to Comcast yesterday and the difference, I am loving it. Thank you, Comcast.

The other reason is under the cut.

Yep, apparently my mom decided that I needed a new dog for my birthday and found this little guy. My dad was grumpy about it but got won over in record-breaking time since newpup's apparently a little more fond of men than women. Star was and still is very grumpy about some hyperactive ball of fluff taking over her living room. And dining room. And window roost.

His name is Kino. If you get where I got the name, you are free to laugh at me. ;;;

And in more canine news, I found this LJ post through CuteOverload's April Fools' prank on its visitors yesterday and just about died at both the post and the other stories in the comments. Because it's so true.

...Granted, my dogs (and by dogs I mean Star and the late Rolly) never ate their stolen sweet potatoes so much as paraded them around like trophies until they got bored with them. And they usually waited until they were cooked to snatch them. The snobs.

It did make me remember one time when Star was a pup, though. It'd been Halloween and my brother and I were putting up our collective stashes from trick or treating. We got out of our costumes, went about our evening routines, and went to bed. We didn't account for Star, who obviously was Very Curious about what we had in those pillowcases, and sometime in the night she managed to jump up onto the four-foot high stairwell wall we placed the bags on to grab them and yank them down. She then proceeded to go through the bags and pick out what she decided she liked.

It was, exclusively, those snack-sized Snickers bars. You know, the ones they had before the company decided they needed to be bite-sized. She ate all of them (there had to be more than twenty total in our stash) and left us the wrappers. It was so neatly done that our parents actually thought one of us had snuck out in the middle of the night to munch on them until they found our bags on the floor. And the dog drool on the wrappers fished out from between the couch cushions.

(We kept an eye on her for a few days after that, but she was perfectly fine other than not being very hungry. For obvious reasons.)

In addition, the new pup decided to make our lives more exciting by managing to eat a daffodil. Which is poisonous. We're not even entirely sure how he managed to get one, considering we only have them in the front yard and he only goes there on a lead so he's always being watched (and I did inspect the flowers in the front afterward, and none of them were damaged. wtf, Kino?). But he ended up vomiting four times before he was more like his usual perky self, so he's none the worse for wear now. I'm keeping a closer eye on him, but I'd like to think he's learnt his lesson.

...That was until he managed to chew off his harness while he was wearing it. Oh, Kino. *facepalm*

Ah, dogs. So willing to kill themselves for what they think is going to be a tasty treat.

life tops me
