Spirit Animals in Supernatural

In the beginning of Supernatural's second season, I posted a meta in sn_theories about what spirit animals would best represent Sam and Dean. I never posted it to my own journal and had all but forgotten it, but I received a very flattering email from silverruffian about how that discussion inspired her. I've always leaned towards a snake of some sort or a stag for Sam. As to Dean... based on what your post says, I'm in agreement of a coyote.

Finally! A convert!

Snake is good. Like birds, snakes are also credited with the ability to pass between worlds. In the case of the snake, it is the living world and the underworld. Their shedding also represents rebirth.

Hmm, could his spirit animal change after he was brought back to life? Extreme and unusual circumstances and all. He goes from stag to snake.

Sam is also a Slytherin, I think. Originally, I thought he could also be a Ravenclaw, but in light of the past three seasons, it has to be Slytherin. (I have a terrible tendency to swerve off topic.)
