Work stuff

Almost three months since my last post. Doesn't feel like it was so long ago.

I'm sticking to work as I don't know where to start on stuff outside of work like the arts collective, how my mum is getting on a year after the accident, little D, plans for next year, life in general, all things I'll write about in another post. So, work, cos it's very easy to write about.

Work has been okay, I upgraded the Barrs Museum kiosk back in October, it runs their ads really smoothly now.

I finished the photographers online contact sheet system and had Scottish Enterprise do some research into whether it could be turned into a viable online business for photographers. Interesting feedback, some possible avenues I could take, but it will take some effort and I need to be either comfortable financially to do it, or paid to do it!

Art in Healthcare had a slow start but the new website is almost ready, looking forward to getting paid in the form of a framed painting. One of their managers also works for a charity called FAIR and they've brought me in to update their website, and this time it involves actual money as payment. They also have a very interesting idea they'd like to pursue so I'm advising on development costs so they can apply for funding.

The headphones website I've mentioned in my previous post is actually two different websites, one for general headphones and one for the client's branded headphones. After the disaster with taking on someone inexperienced to do the logo design, I did some rough logos as placeholders until we could get someone in to do them properly. However, the client really liked what I came up with, so after a couple of rounds of tweaks and colour adjustments he accepted them. One of the websites is complete and the other needs some feedback from the client to finalise some of the graphics.

One of the estate agents that uses my property management system required an XML data feed into the Plain Talking Property website. Straightforward work, as the PTP feed structure is derived from another property feed format with only minor changes. Issues that did come up was support for a list of rooms and larger/more images, and a fixed set of areas and districts (based on the ESPC set). All sorted.

The large contract I referred to previously was due to finish in November, but another project at the same organisation has delayed the work and it looks like it will be January by the time it's complete and the second half of payment is made. However with the work from other clients I've managed to have some money coming in in the meantime.

Aside from finishing the large contract and a day or two of work for other clients here and there, I'm not sure what will be on my plate from January onwards. There's a good possibility of working on a project from January til the end of March, which I hope to get confirmation on this week or next. If it's not happening then I will be chasing up the agency that said they could give me some short term contracts. Either way it would be great to have something on the cards.

:D
