[Kain is currently a wreck of a man who's wandering about more like a zombie in the wilderness. It's a small place so their PATHS CROSS AT SOME POINT.]

[Cecil understands, man. He doesn't bother with a greeting, nor does he muster false cheer as he falls into step at Kain's side.] They've both been gone far too long.

[Just nods, looks down, seemingly indifferent to his presence either way. He's got this wonderful excuse not to talk and it makes withdrawing from the universe easier.]

[Try all you want, Kain. Cecil's going to have a conversation with you whether you want one or not.] Kefka didn't deserve what happened to him that day.

[Siiiiiighs, but there is more agreeable nodding. Actually, not being able to do anything in the fallout of that was also not good for his mental state, because inaction makes him a angstbucket. He wouldn't know how to begin avenging him though. Plus, the side of him that isn't drawn to powerful evil leaders doesn't want to do against Terra. SO MUCH CONFUSION.]

And yet, when I've spoken to the Lady Terra earlier, she seemed a gentle spirit herself... I know not where loyalties ought fall, if we are to choose between the two of them. A confrontation of that sort mustn't happen again. [With Kain's voice out of commission, he's attempting to carry enough conversation for the both of them and hoping he's understanding Kain's body language correctly.]

[Kain does have his journal on him, and the flashcards with phrases from Quistis, but... he isn't feeling communicative in general. So he'll make a shrugging, confused look. He isn't sure either, who he truly wants to side with. But choosing sides and sticking there has never been his strong point.]

[That Quistis is quite the resourceful one, isn't she? But he nods at Kain's general confusion nonetheless.] ...It was much simpler at home.

[So resourceful that she tied Kain up. :| But they are most certainly never discussing that. Kain looks down and again nods. Even if he was still confused at home, there wasn't all of this other nonsense thrown in.]

...Perhaps this is one such occasion that demands discussion over ale. [Because good beer is the solution to most troubles. Bad beer too. And because neither one of them are drunk enough to take this conversation much further.]

[Kain shrugs, nods, it's more an automatic sort of reply just to reply... Cecil could have suggested they go kick puppies or go streaking or something else just as insane, and he wouldn't have reacted much. HE IS THIS HOPELESS. But at least he won't/can't turn him down.]

[What if they kicked puppies while streaking? Cecil doesn't mind the apathy very much, since Kain's given him permission to drag him off into the closer of the two pubs. He didn't need very much of an excuse, really. The nodding is good enough.]

[It probably won't knock away this deep dark horrible cloud of miserable woe and doom and foreboding, but... maybe they can emo together for a little bit. So Kain just goes along with him. And also says "..." just because.]

[But that's just Kain's regular expression lately anyway. It isn't until he two frothy mugs are placed on the table in front of them that Cecil connects this moment to the last time they'd connected like this -- the eve Kain died.]

... Have you been well, Kain? All things considered? [He asks as though they don't share space in the same house. Cecil fails at paying attention.]

[How ominous. But that thought hasn't escaped Kain's attention either, and it does settle into mind. He first takes a few gulps of his drink. He goes through the cards from Quistis, selecting and holding up one. It's not the truth, really, but it's what he'd rather tell him.]

[He forces a smile at the sight of Kain's cards.] Those are much more convenient than what you were using before! How clever of you.
