"You’re right, I can’t control him. And if I truly cared about him, I wouldn’t want to."

Annie Edison, "Football, Feminism and You."

I dunno but for some reason this line (I'm rewatching this episode AGAIN I really love it okay?) always makes me think of Jeff/Annie and their story throughout the other seasons.

I know this is Annie speaking about Troy right now, but I think it has further implications in the long run when one thinks of her relationship with Jeff.

Annie knows full well that she can't control Jeff (no matter how direct she is when it comes to trying to wring an apology out of him for his behaviour towards her in Anthro 101, or, more obviously, his manwhoring behaviour that she disapproves of though that tapers off and finally disappears by S3) but unlike her relationship with Troy, she knows that her opinion of him means a lot to him and that he would do a lot - like "break a light sweat" - in an attempt to live up to her ideals (it's not for nothing that this two remind me of Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe jsyk....)

and I dunno.... whenever I hear this line it immediately think of Jeff/Annie and how Annie, whilst she's been direct with Jeff about her feelings, has never tried to control him into being someone that she wants.

Instead, Jeff works on his character for himself but let's be honest, ANNIE is a major source of inspiration in that area.....
