Sadly, the fic that the subject line is stolen from is nowhere half as good as I'd like. Ah well. The line amused me dreadfully.
Who played the what in Yugioh? Every Roy/Ed fic ever --now summarized in a comic. Quite possibly the most believably human
post HBP HP fic ever: Secrets. Some of the plot tumbles too quickly, some of the tension is drawn out for too long, but...quite heavy on well-thought out canon-compliant plot. And lookit --there's even Harry x Draco action, which is not the main focus of the fic (the story of how Harry takes the war into his own hands is the main plot and focus, surprising in any slashfic), but quite believable and well-developed. Darker!Harry without being Dark!Harry! Three dimensional Slytherins! Hermione and Ron behaving like their IC, human selves instead of cardboard caricatures! An interpretation of canon!Dumbledore that I actually like --quite possibly the most challenging task of all, since I've found him increasingly annoying in the books. And bygod, an Aunt Petunia with depth minus being all reformed and nambypamby soft and/or a victim of spousal abuse!
I'm happy. This would be why I occasionally delve into ficdom. Several hours of fic-reading bliss. There's a few narrative problems and convenient plot holes, but damned if I didn't thoroughly enjoy how everyone was an actual, complex human being, with the sole and understandable exception of Voldemort.
Romping around, I also rediscovered the classic H/D fluff epic,
Dragontamer. Characters start out mildly OOC and rapidly spiral into massive OOC, but I have a soft spot for the story. A transfigured bunny named Draco Lucius Malfoy the Third and a lot of creativity make it worthwhile.
I wish I was in NYC right now. There's a few things I wish I could talk to various people about, and internet conversations are not the way to go. *sigh* That, and I miss the company dreadfully.
