So who totally chose An Die Musik? Oh yes, that was ME, as predicted. Who muttered (and I mean muttered --sweet god, I know I can sing louder than that, I do; people just make my voice shrink with their EYES) through it? Yep, me again. Who's getting an A in that class? Oh yes, me again. Score! And I got a hug from Prof. Sheppard. The man is so very nice.

What I thought was my diploma turns out to be a certificate for achieving scholastic merit or some such. It goes with my gold tassel.

While generally a good rant, a few points I disagree with/find issue with in the OP and comments: 1500's Japan was a bawdy place with a healthy appetite for all things sexual and body-related. The modern disapproval of the mere act of a couple holding hands in public didn't really develop until after modernization and the consequent Westernization, and accelerated largely after the American occupation post-WWII; though I add the caveat that throughout history, physical displays of affection in public were, well, in poor taste, saving it for the dubious privacy of thin walls and cramped quarters. Inuyasha has uber-sensitive ears and a sharp nose --he knows sex happens. Maybe hasn't ever gotten laid in his life, but certainly not a mental or indirect virgin by any means. He doesn't seem to have shame issues with nudity --his watching Kagome bathing at the beginning of the series indicates a certain lack of caring; he only gets embarrassed when she flips out and implies that he's a pervert. (I can't imagine the cultural confusion he would experience, and how truly weird Kagome must've seemed. They had women working the fields topless because it was bloody hot; no biggie.)

And c'mon, he was going to spend the rest of his life as a human with Kikyou, with the implication the two would marry. I figure sex had to come into play somewhere in that relationship, even if only as a future possibility without the danger of having a part-demon kid. So no, he did not just get over the "ew icky girls" stage.

Plus, though he's immature...most people were getting married and having kids anywhere around the ages of 13 and up. That peasant girl who was totally psyched to see Miroku was 11 when she agreed to bear his child and 14 when she eagerly claimed she was old enough and physically developed enough to bear healthy kids for him --that attitude of an early marriage/procreation was common (though copulating with Miroku, on the other hand...).

I do tend to overthink things, though. But I find it more enjoyable and interesting to see how the cultural influences may or may not be represented in the show.

Tomorrow's my last day of work. I don't like it, as I am a creature of habit and I like stability. I have so few things that are stable in my life as is. *sigh*

class, thinking too much, exams, fanfic rants, inuyasha
