silverwind9 is now playing Lana. :V Yes... cringe in horror. Cringe, I say!
[NAME:] Lana Skye
[AGE:] 32
[BIRTHDAY:] January 9th, 1988 - This makes her a
Capricorn and a
Dragon.
[GENDER:] Female
[STATUS:] Currently dating Jake Marshall.
[SEXUALITY:] Married to her work. Also: straight, despite the occasional intellectual attraction.
[FAMILY:] Her parents are deceased, and she and Ema have no other living relatives.
Ema Skye: Lana's beloved younger sister. Their parents died in a car accident while Ema was still quite young, and Lana has been Ema's guardian since that time. This, combined with the thirteen year age difference between the sisters means that Lana serves a maternal role in many ways, and regards her sister as a responsibility. She loves Ema excessively, cares and worries about and for her, and is protective of her sister to an extreme extent. This overprotectiveness is a weakness that has allowed her to become controlled in the past, and though she has striven to improve on it, it is still quite present and makes her easily predictable in at least one regard. With the growing realization that her sister is growing up, Lana is making an effort to give her sister some space of her own. An effort-this is not to say that she's always successful. Yes, she's still keeping quite a careful eye out.
[FRIENDS:] Though her 'icy' wall has mostly melted and her naturally warm and friendly demeanour is showing again, Lana is by nature a rather reserved individual - there are few people she actually considers to be close friends.
Jake Marshall: Lana's relationship with Jake is... complicated, to say the least. Despite the misconceptions of several of their coworkers and acquaintances, she was dating the older cowboy in the time prior to the conclusion of the SL-9 incident (3 months casually, and about a year and a half in serious commitment). When Neil was murdered and Lana struck her 'deal' with Gant, she found it necessary to distance herself from everyone she was close to, including-especially-Jake. It was her only way of coping with her situation, and though she tried for a while to balance her concern for Jake (and how badly he was taking Neil's death) with her new 'duties' as the Chief Prosecutor, she couldn't bring herself to stay with him, and definitely could not reveal to him the secrets she was keeping inside of herself.
Now that her trial is long over, and they've both served their time... she and Jake have gotten together again. This is not to say that their relationship is by any means smooth and that everything in the past is over and done with-Lana herself still continues to bear quite a deal of guilt for her past actions, actions she now recognises were selfish in more than one respect; she holds herself to be quite responsible for Jake's current situation and with that comes the desire to help pick him back up. She is not prone to speaking out her guilt, and tries her best to look forward-but that sense of responsibility present in so many other places in her life is still active here. Her stubborn nature transmits to a very strong drive devoted to getting him back on his feet.
Most importantly though, Lana realizes that she still deeply loves and cares for the man, and as headstrong and stubborn they both are, and as bumpy as the ride may be along the way, she is soundly committed to Jake. The two (plus Ema, of course~) have been living together for the past month or so, after the Rusty Gust was damaged in the large scale earthquake that hit Los Angeles.
Miles Edgeworth: It's been a while since she was his supervisor, and the time in which she was was hardly a good time for her (or for him, really), but Lana grew to respect and care for the man during her time as Chief Prosecutor. She still feels guilt for being the one responsible in handing him forged evidence in many of his cases, and for the turmoil that came into his life afterward as a result, but as in the other aspects of her life she is trying to place all of this behind her. Though she does not keep in regular contact with Edgeworth, she is interested in his ongoings-because he and Phoenix helped to resolve her trial, because he's now dating Angel, and because Ema is still relatively infatuated with the man.
Angel Starr: Their relationship has definitely improved since the conclusion of Lana's trial, but that is not to say that things are not still a little awkward between Lana and the lunch lady/police detective. At times the past feels like an ignored elephant in the room, but Lana is interested in looking ahead, and continuing to connect with Angel however she can. Interestingly, Angel is the other primary female voice in Lana's life.
Phoenix Wright: Lana feels understandably indebted towards the former defense attorney, and was quite shocked and dismayed at his sudden disbarment on charges of fabricated evidence. She soundly believes there is some hidden explanation for the circumstances of State v. Enigmar, and does not think for an instant that Phoenix is capable of forging evidence. She is not in contact with Phoenix frequently, but is both genuinely disappointed and disapproving of his present situation, his apparent lapse of investigating his disbarment, and his newfound 'easygoing', flippant attitude-- what she views to be a discarding of much of the qualities she used to admire of him. Still, though, she has a faith that he is or can be swayed to get back on the right path, and would set him on it herself if the opportunity were presented.
Mia Fey: Mia was a few years under Lana, attending the same law school, and the two came to respect and admire each other during that time. Much of what Lana saw and approved of in Phoenix was the continuance of Mia's headstrong, earnest nature, and the continuance of her legacy... meaning that she is disapproving of the man's 'fall' in more ways than one. Mia's death came at a time when Lana was distancing herself from everyone else-and she didn't have the time or the ability to mourn her passing, much less say goodbye in the months prior to it. She regrets the lack of closure, but would not opt for any of that spirit-channelling mumbo jumbo; it is just another thing to place behind, and move on from.
[NEUTRAL:]
Adrian Andrews: Not exactly a friend, but not exactly a neutral party either; Lana met Adrian in the women's penitentiary and looked after the younger woman when she was having troubles adjusting. They've met once or twice after getting out, but Lana does not actively keep up to date with Adrian's life.
Klavier Gavin: Lana... does not think much of the prosecutor / rising rock star. She is quite aware he was the acting prosecutor in the case that got Phoenix Wright disbarred, but a glance at his record eased concerns about him being the one who was actually behind the evidence fabrication. She is also quite aware of his relationship with her younger sister, and in that is not particularly pleased-she sees his accomplishments but also his still immature, loud, reckless behavior; his flirtatiousness, his potential to hurt Ema either with a lapse of his affection or a much too early physical display of his ardour. She recognizes she is a harsh critic, however, and that she must give her sister some freedom to choose who to associate with. One step out of line, though, and Klavier will quite likely have to deal with her overprotective, overbearing side. Until then, she remains wary but aloof.
Kristoph Gavin: She's met Kristoph a couple of times, and though they haven't had much time to have an actual, genuine conversation, Kristoph is beginning to make a name for himself in the legal world and as Lana still keeps abreast of law-related news, she has taken an interest in the direction he takes his career. She acknowledges he has good taste in wines, and their tastes seem to be fairly compatible in other regards; Lana would not mind getting to know the man better.
Winston Payne: Depending on how that 'date' went, Payne may actually have to be bumped to the 'enemy' category. Lana doesn't think much-has never thought much-of the inept man, but that recent shit-talking about Neil has definitely not warmed her up to the guy. He's too pathetic to actually hate, though.
[ENEMIES:]
Damon Gant: The less thought of the man, the better. Lana has had a long and convoluted history with the former Chief of Police. In her earliest days, she admired him and saw him as everything she wanted to be; she looked up to his sharp mind, his work ethic and his distaste for crime and injustice. When she was promoted to detective and became his partner, they became renowned throughout the police department as the 'Legendary Duo' for their speed and effectiveness in solving crimes even before they were properly filed. At that stage, she had an ardent admiration for Gant that, even if it were not romantic, was certainly an idolization of the man.
Then Neil died. The important thing to note is that when she discovered the crime scene and fully believed that Ema had accidently killed Neil Marshall, Lana asked the 'second' person to arrive at the scene of the crime, Gant, for his help; the ensuing fabrication they carried out together was something she was grateful for; he had done this for her and she was indebted to him. It was only after favor after favor was made-rather, demand after demand-that she understood her actual position and her admiration and camaraderie turned into dread, fear. However, each demand made was carried out without complaint as much as it may have troubled her inside; Gant had judged correctly, in that Lana would upon no circumstances risk him revealing to the world what had 'actually' happened on the night of Neil Marshall's murder.
Then her trial came along, along with the revelation that Gant had manipulated her protectiveness for her sister and orchestrated the scene she had discovered that night two years ago. With this and the proof that he had been the one behind Bruce Goodman's murder, Lana was 'released' from her chains, and there ended all connection and contact with Gant. This state remained even as inmates of Bloodspill Maximum Security received internet and blogging privileges: though he assumed a trolling presence in the lives of those connected to SL-9, she actively ignored Gant and where that was not possible, kept her responses concise and remained unaffected.
The recent earthquake, however, and the fact that Gant was able to escape the prison has unsettled her to a degree that has not happened for the last few years. Hearing of his behavior during the breakout from Jake, she now fully believes the ex-Chief of Police has lost his mind-her feelings on him are a mixture of pity and disdain. There are many unanswered questions in her mind, of course, but she doesn't expect any sane response, and certainly not any closure from him.
[OCCUPATION:] Private Investigator, self employed. Though she has a rather troubled employment history, Lana's prowess as a former detective and prosecutor has made her a competent private eye, slowly drawing more attention and demand from potential employers. She is skilled at investigation and in testifying in court, and has taken a number of larger cases-though following her personal tastes, that of the attorney who had defended her three years back, and the ideology of the inventor of her profession, she's turned down a few cases that would have otherwise left a bad taste in her mouth. This makes paying the bills more of a challenge than with her previous jobs, but she and Ema are making do.
Lana is enjoying the challenge of being a private investigator, and the connection, however occasionally minimal it is to her beloved field of law; she gets quite wrapped up in cases and sees the days and weeks-if not longer-of investigation as an inviting challenge. The irregular hours of the job, though, and the constant times she's required to stay in the field and apart from her sister are a source of some guilt.
[HOBBIES:] As she's a bit of a workaholic and she's now employed at a job that gives her enjoyment, working is definitely a 'hobby' - or at least, something of intense interest to her, something she doesn't mind spending the brunt of her time on. She also enjoys reading, keeping up with local news and also state, nation and international developments in the legal world; her love of the law has not left her. In addition, Lana always goes to the gym several times per week; in addition to her commitment to keeping in shape, it now is rather crucial for her job that she stay fit.
[LIKES:] Peace and quiet, time with her sister, time with Jake (when he is not frustrating her), a good book, the feeling that she is working towards an achievable goal, one on one chats, a good meal with close company, helping others (to help themselves; there is very much a teacher in her, though she did not really enjoy her stint as a professor).
[DISLIKES:] Manipulation, liars, being unable to see the truth of a situation, being unable to change or affect her environment/situations, being contradicted (regardless of whether or not her assertion is the correct one), arguments (though at the same time she enjoys verbal sparring; it is a fine line).\
[STRENGTHS:] In addition to a sharp and critical mind, Lana is in possession of a fit and well-toned body. Much has been made of her legs, which are capable of kicking over oil barrels filled to the brim with water. She hasn't forgotten the skills she'd acquired as a detective and a prosecutor: she knows how to use firearms and owns a handgun, she claims to always carry a pocket flashlight and camera with her, and she is a compelling and authoritative speaker, generally commanding respect in those around her . She is fair and balanced, impartial save when those particularly close to her are involved, and she possesses a strength of will and a composure that are both difficult to crack. She is detail oriented and keeps her life quite organized, and she assists those close to her in whatever way she can. Even to acquaintances, she is warm (though not necessarily friendly) and eager to teach and to help.
[WEAKNESSES:] Many of Lana's strengths can also easily become weaknesses; her adeptness at compiling and interpreting evidence can cause her to become single-minded in thought; her strength of will can fester into a stubbornness that few can budge (both are heavily problematic when people try to sway her to another point of view); her composure keeps her formal for most occasions, making her come off as a little dry (not to mention a bit of a joy-killer) at times. She can and has been cold, and is guilty of not only hiding her own emotions but cutting others completely out of her life; these are things that she abhors about herself, however, and nowadays these aspects will not easily rise to the surface. Her most prominent weakness is her love for her sister-or rather an overprotective concern in regards to her sister's safety and comfort that borders on paranoid, and that has allowed her to become controlled in the past. Due to what she'd learned through her trial, and also due to the fact that Ema is growing up, she's working on this last particular weakness.
...She still is rather overprotective, though.
[APPEARANCE:] Standing at 168 cm, or 5'6, Lana is a relatively tall female with straight brown hair, blue eyes, pale skin and a solemn, mature expression. Nowadays, she's seen smiling quite frequently, though she has a terrifyingly stern expression when provoked. She has a good, if stiff posture, and often wears a full uniform, complete with epaulettes and medals she'd acquired through her service in the justice system; they are a reminder of her commitment to hard work, justice and the law, and she does not feel the confinement she once experienced within them. Nowadays however, her job as a P.I. requires her to go undercover and travel in less attention-grabbing clothes; she's fond of fairly conservative clothes: modest skirts, scarves, plain colors with a dash of brightness to draw the eye.
[PERSONALITY:] Once admired for her warm, friendly demeanor, Lana has mostly returned to this state, three years after her trial. She smiles frequently, is open and honest, and has a sense of humor hidden under her calm appearance. This is not to say that she is the most sociable person in the world, however; she is still quite reserved and formal, especially when work or serious matters are concerned. Though she is capable of (and enjoys) leading and teaching, she is by nature a private, introspective individual, dedicated to doing things by the book. She is not prone to open anger, though she can be harsh when confrontational-and she holds grudges, bottles insecurities and regrets. She is an idealist, but at the same time a terribly practical figure.
[BACKGROUND:] Please trust me when I say I know 1-5 better than the back of my hand. >:U
HERE IS A QUICK SUMMARY OF LANA'S LIFE
1. Orphaned along with sister, became Ema's guardian in her mid teens.
2. With the intention of becoming a prosecutor, went to law school; was a few years above Mia, and met her when Mia was auditing her class.
3. Became an officer of the LAPD, with the intention of developing on-hands experience at crime scenes to reach a fuller understanding in her future career as prosecutor. Was soon promoted to detective.
4. Met Gant when she was promoted to senior detective; worked for three years as his partner, and together became known as the 'Legendary Duo'.
5. Headed the SL-9 investigation along with Gant (and Goodman); was off filing papers when the blackout occurred and Darke got loose.
6. Ran upstairs to her and Gant's office, finding Darke unconscious, Neil Marshall impaled on a suit of armor, and her sister in (assumedly) a position that seemed like she had killed him by accident.
7. In a panic, took a photo of the crime scene, tried to wipe the blood off the jar, then held Ema till Gant came in; she struck a deal with him and together fabricated the crime scene.
8. Manipulated the evidence presented during the SL-9 trial, tried to console Jake but eventually pushed him and everyone else away, including her sister; was moved to the Prosecutor's Office and promoted to Chief so Gant could give her orders.
9. Spent two years under Gant's control, handing fabricated evidence to prosecutors such as Edgeworth. Clammed up completely.
10. Got blamed for killing Goodman after trying to receive his body at the underground parking lot of the Prosecutor's Office and getting detained by Angel. After many irritating hassles and three days of trial, the true culprit was revealed and SL-9 was properly solved, leading to a happy ending.
11. Served time in a women's penitentiary till early 2019; worked as a professor as she tried getting into a career more related to the law.
12. Became a P.I., re-started her relationship with Jake Marshall.
