Saw the new Harry Potter movie the other day. So you get my post-movie rant, now.
Luna was all kinds of great. She goes on the very short list of characters that I love the casting on in those movies. (If you're interested, the list also includes Lockhart, Trelawney, Snape, and the original Dumbledore.) The thestrals were also very nice, and it worked very well to have Luna be the one to explain them to Harry.
I didn't really like that it was Hermione that introduced Luna rather than Ginny, partly because Ginny has more reason to know who Luna is, and partly because, well, I'm a Ginny/Luna shipper. Yeah, I know, I'm a freak. Most of my other ships are canon (Tonks/Lupin OTP!), but I've got a soft spot for Ginny/Luna.
On a less positive note, do you know what one of the trends in the fandom is that really annoys me is? Cho-bashing. And now that it's not as prevalent as it was, WB goes and makes Cho-bashing movie-canon! Come on! They left in enough random DA members, why couldn't they have included Marrietta Edgecombe?
Tonks was decent, if not exactly how I pictured her. And, you know, not on screen nearly enough. Neither was Lupin, actually. So maybe I can assume that they were off somewhere together. And really, I've had it up to here with people claiming there was all sorts of Moonstar subtext, in either the book or the movie. I have no problem with non-canon ships, but when people go out of their way to find subtext for those characters and then force said subtext down everyone else's throat as the OMG TRUTH? Fail.
The veil was so cool. Again, not how I pictured it, but cool. And Bellatrix was awesome. Seriously, yay for the Noble House of Black and it's mile-wide crazy streak!
Speaking of the Noble House of Black, I am now almost certain that R.A.B. is Regulus and that he used Kreacher to get at the locket-'crux. I mean, why else have Kreacher in the movie of OOTP, if you arn't going to go into the scene where he lets Harry believe that Sirius is already at the ministry? Our least-favorite house-elf has something BIG coming in DH.
