I saw
The Fountain last night. I am not sure I can write a justified review as I was left somewhat unable to function after viewing it! It is possibly the most impacting film I have seen - and Darren Aronofsky's films tend to be intense viewing having seen both Pi and Requiem for a Dream. The Fountain cannot be compared to those simply for the layers of impact it offers - psychologically and spiritually - as well as a blow to the human heart. The visuals are stunning, and in many ways it was like a dream sequence rather than a film. I was alone in the darkness of my lounge, the brilliant warmth of the golden hues on the 28" screen and the mesmerising soundscapes made me feel rather...otherworldly...it was the shortest 90 minutes of my film-viewing life! I wish I had been able to see it on the big screen. So a huge thank you to
lily_la_merfor being a woman of fine taste!
Go see the above trailer. Open minded fantasy/mythology/occult theosophy lovers will enjoy, as well as for pure aesthetic and well-written, beautifully-costumed pleasure. Hugh Jackman scrubs up well in it too and the roels are convincing and hearthfelt.
So I had a weekend of rather deep/emotional film viewing with Babel and El Crimen del padre Amara (The Crime of Father Amaro) - with the lovely Gabriel Garcia Bernal. Both very moving films, though the latter was somewhat predictable - I mostly chose it for shallow reasons (and generally I like Gabriel's choice of movies thus far).
Anyways I am currently supposed to be working so should end this post. Hope you all had a good weekend. I am wondering still if the rain will ever stop here over the summer (which we appear to have given away to someone else this year as Scandanavia give us their weather system)...2 or 3 days of sunshine in the past month and serious flooding in the South East & South West of the UK. What fun.
