I haven't really posted in a while. At least nothing substantial. Twitter posts don't count. So we'll do it in traditional list form. Preview for what's under the cut: sick mom, fall classes, financial aid fail, OMG I LOVE TRUE BLOOD!!! (no spoilers), Breaking Dawn: the end of a saga that goes on for countless pages (I suppose there are spoilers here), Edward's suffering under Obama's refusal to fund abstinence only programs, Glee squee, Party Down with Dick and Vinny Vanlowe, books, Ambien: America's New LSD.
1.) My mom is really sick right now: headache, fever, body aches and these horrible wracking coughs. She sounds like she's dying when she coughs. It's kind of scary. I'm being a good daughter by fetching her things and reading Harry Potter to her. She's almost done with OotP.
2.) I signed up for fall classes. It was ridiculous. I had 11th priority (1 before last) and thus couldn't take any classes for my major. Instead I'm registered for French I (repeating for experience), Modern South East Asian History and Brit lit up to the 18th century.
3.) I was denied financial aid for the summer since they thought I wasn't making sufficient academic progress. Well that's kind of impossible when you're on a medical leave. So the financial aid office told me to appeal. They were very nice about the whole thing and I can appeal the decision. This is kind of important since if I don't take summer classes they will kick me out of school.
4.) Ausellio
spoilers for Dollhouse and True Blood are making me seriously giddy. Especially True Blood. It's different enough from the books that I have no clue what's going to happen. God I can't wait for June 14th.
5.) I'm halfway through Breaking Dawn. I feel so sorry for Bella. If only because Edward would not put out past that first time. Pages and pages were devoted to Edward's tortured excuses. She finally had to break down and cry for him to give in. Thank god Edward doesn't get a part of the book devoted to him. I don't think I can stand anymore of his pity party. That's exactly why I didn't like Angel in the first few seasons of Buffy. He was so much better as Angelus and then really came into his own on Angel. Oh and Bella makes drinking blood about the unsexiest thing ever. Imagining her sipping it out of a cup makes me want to hurl. I think I like traditional bloodsucking and I fear I won't get any in this book.
Oh and Jacob rocks! I don't condone some of his behavior toward Bella but he has the most personality. It was fun reading his part.
6.) I LOVED GLEE! Go see it at the
fox website 7.) Party Down (on Starz) is also good. Not great but worth seeing for all the VMars stars (plus Jason Stackhouse's crazy girlfriend). A
clip for your viewing pleasure.
alissabobissa kind of ships Kyle/Constance and I think I do too on some perverse level. I just love seeing Dick Casablancas in a role where he isn't an asshole. (Yes, I refuse to look up actual actor names)
8.) will be updating my book list soon. Recent reads include all the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Perfect Fifths, The Host, Breaking Dawn. Next read will be somewhat more serious. Alissa lent me The Poisonwood Bible. My scifi read will be Uglies and Dan Simmons' Ilium.
9.) there was a great mini article on American woes and ambien in the current issue of Rolling Stone. As an ambien user (and most of the time not abuser) I enjoyed reading it. It mostly had to do with what happens when you stay awake and fight off the pill's somnolent effects; namely hallucinations and memory loss. My experience has been that I feel really drunk. Walking is not a good idea. I've felt pretty loopy. When I first took ambien about two years ago I had an odd hallucination right before falling asleep. I thought I was in a giant tv made of cake with pink frosting. Kind of fun actually. Memory loss has occured though.
I suppose the important part of using ambien is that it puts you to sleep and helps you stay asleep. And in the past week I have had the best sleep ever. I wake up feeling rested for a change. And that's what matters to me.
