So, people I know are starting to talk about it. So I'm going to start fucking talking about. Because we don't. We all go to our Women's Studies classes and talk about consciousness raising and laugh at how trite and old fashioned that is because we're living in a new century and we ALWAYS talk about things and we all KNOW HOW TO HANDLE OURSELVES

Spotted your bio and that whilst doing so, ya seemed interesting (and about as enthusiastic and stuck when it comes to writing bios as me, although you've done a much better job at not coping out of it). And, as I'm a curious fellow, decided to see what sorta things you were saying in posts... which is a how the internet works, but still quite invasive.
Anyway, the point is that I just read the above post, and I kinda felt that I should comment on it.
I agree with your pre-text of peoples assumption that "lesser" evils shouldn't be as bad as the "real" bad stuff out there. The line "well just think of all the people who have it worse than you" is always the first argument in most peoples repertoire, and although I strongly agree that this shouldn't be said at all let alone first, the problem is that people often don't know how to deal with any sort of evil and therefore try to make it more manageable by downscaling it. It's also the often held view that if you can make something into nothing then it doesn't matter anymore, which can work for the short term but hardly solves the problem and therefore doesn't really help overall.
I also would like to blame the legal system for categorising different forms of assault and sexual abuse and then passing different sentences based on them. Yes I agree not all cases are the same and there are infinite factors to consider, but I also understand that it is ultimately the same mentality of serfdom where by criminals can take calculated risks because everything has a defined cost to it, which it should never be.
I think that's the basis of peoples mentality, which could be partly dealt with in many ways, but only in small amounts. I do think that people being more open about these things will help though.
On the note of your last statement however, I'd like to point out that its not really a guy thing. Yes, I know, I'm only being so defensive due to it being a broad attack on the gender I happen to be, but that's actually nothing to do with it. But it happens with both genders, and its a predator thing, its why you can highlight how both the ideally beautiful women and the "abnormal" are both targeted and harassed. Those type of people will look for any sort of "in", they're very clever and look for "targets", and yes I agree that certain things will make you more of a target (such as being in a wheelchair) but ultimately even personality or current state can make you a target. Yes all of this is a very bleak view of things, and I agree with every other point you made, however I do feel that you defining it as a male only things is wrong.
I guess half of this is random ranting and the other half is only a mild variant on what you've already said... but I never said what I had to say was of any substance =D Either way, I agree with you on the most part and I just felt that I should say as much.
