Fic Recs and Writing Plans
So the smutty_claus fic exchange is almost over, and while I'm anxiously awaiting the big 'reveal', I have a few recs to pass on. There were so many great entries this year, but these particularly caught my attention. So please head over there and show these mystery authors some love and appreciation for their hard work! (You must be 18 or over to view these fics as they are all rated R to NC-17.)
That Which Is Wholly Unsayable (Harry/Ginny), written for emmagrant01. Taking inspiration from the book "The Time Traveler's Wife", this is eloquently written, and stunning in its emotional depth. Told from both Harry's and Ginny's points of view.
In Solemn Stillness Lay (Ron/Hermione), written for pumpkinpasty. Very powerful depiction of Ron and Hermione's 'first time', set in the aftermath of the war, where Ron's nightmares of what happened to Hermione at Malfoy Manor play a major role. It is beautifully written.
Sweden, Snow, & Serenity (Dean/Luna), written for deena_s. The author clearly did her research for this one; the writing is so clear and detailed that you feel like you are right there with Dean and Luna. I found this pairing to be very sweet in DH, and this author portrays them well here.
Synesthesia (Bill/Fleur), written for karasu_hime. This one involves the really extraordinary use of extra-sensory perception and how it plays into Bill's insecurities, and his relationship with Fleur, after the werewolf attack.
This Too Shall Pass (Harry/Ginny), written for ladytory. This is a 'first-time' fic; all fumbling and awkwardness, but full of tenderness. It has the perfect blend of angst and smut.
Complicated Games (Charlie/Tonks), written for slytherin_face. I never even thought of this pairing until I read it. It is wonderfully complex, and really brings the characters of Charlie and Tonks to life, making the pairing believable. The author plays around with canon a bit, to great effect - and the big twist at the end...I never saw it coming!
Bittersweet Clarity (Bill/Luna), written for purebloodgryff. Very sweet, hot, and poignant as it deals with a one-sided love affair.
Better Left Unsaid (Harry/Luna) written for arbor_vitae. It is very funny and clever. Luna is so in character, which can be a hard thing to pull off. Perhaps it is the former H/L shipper in me, but I really enjoyed this one!
And of course I would be completely remiss if I didn't once again mention the smoking hot James/Lily fic written for me. Shagging In E-Flat Major. The words literally smolder on the page, just like the relationship between James Potter and Lily Evans. Very hot, and sexy, and wonderful.
As for me, I'm gearing up to write for the hpgw_ficafest, and my inaugural entry for hp_springsmut (assignments go out tomorrow, yay!). That one will be a little bit of a stretch, since it involves minor pairings, but I'm looking forward to the challenge!
