QRC - The good, the bad and the ugly

Apr 16, 2011 23:23

Survived my first QRC including all of the pomp and circumstance.

The GOOD:
- Having fun with friends
- Seeing Tony actually win a few rounds in the Bear Pit
- Seeing Tony so happy after he purchased a new rapier from Thorpe
- Having a chance to fence people I've never fenced before
- And number ONE was having the opportunity to really watch Don Christian fence
(His skill with a blade is a beauty to behold.  Such economy of movement.  Nothing wasted.  Something to emulate)

the BAD:
- The storm that took out the lights during feast
- The threatened tornados
- Seeing the blade on the sword Tony literally JUST purchased from Thorpe bend significantly (although, to his credit, Thorpe did replace the blade immediately).

the UGLY:
- My fencing -- I don't know what happened today, but my fencing reached new levels of LOW today.  I'd like to blame being exhausted and in agony from the performance on Friday night, but once I got moving, I felt relatively okay.  I fenced Helena a few times and it was utterly pathetic.  But she was kind and said she saw improvement.  My only half-way match was against a lovely woman with extremely short hair.  She was quite good.  We had a double kill and then she killed me off, but at least I didn't feel like I was standing around being a human pin cushion.

Well, Tuesday is another day.  George has promised me a match.  Despite him being a member of Steel Therapy, I've never had a chance to fence him.  I am not really sure what his skill level is (although I can almost guarantee he's better than I am), but he's someone different.  Maybe I'll learn something.  Hopefully whatever slump I was in today will be over by then.

Monday - I face the dentist.  FRACK!!!  Maybe I can use HIM for a pin cushion.
