From the first trailer, I have not been convinced Mercer is the villain in the game. I refuse to believe it, even if it turns out to be true.

Apparently there is a tie-in comic that explains why Alex has decided to go "man, fuck humanity" instead of being vaguely benevolent/leaving everyone the hell alone, like the ending for the first game implied.
