So, Luna's powers revolve around seeing and changing other peoples emotions, both past and present. They're significantly weaker here, but the reading should still work most of the time, and you'll always have the choice in if her trying to change your characters emotions work.
Basically, how the empathy works is she'll look at your character, and see the color they're feeling.
