The Wheels on the Bus go Round n Round...

Since enrolling at Pitt, I have begun to use the public transportation system. I actually enjoy the ride, particularly, being able to zone out for 20 minutes and arrive quite near my destination. Granted, none of my quirks have quieted, which is to say I avoid touching all bars, straps, surfaces, other people, etc. Anyway, yesterday on my way home from my doctor (clarification to follow) I stumbled upon a ridiculous conversation, and as with all things ridiculous, I loved it.

Anyway, I always go to the back of the bus due to my stop being relatively close to the end of the line. And what I have come to see is that on my way home from Pitt I am always the last white person on the bus. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I am just submerged into a completely different culture. When there are only 5 people on the bus, conversations become louder and more personal and….. in general, more ridiculous. Around the East Liberty station thing, three people were discussing their felonies. One woman was trying to get a job and just didn’t understand why “misorderly conduct” was such a bad thing. She said that it was ridiculous that she couldn’t work with children because “For god’s sake, I’m a mother!” Everyone began to speak up and I realized that everyone else on the bus had been charged with some crime. A shout from the front “Did you plead guilty?!” “Yeah” “Yeah that was a mistake….. go downtown and have it expunged….if its something little it’ll cost you 50, and it’ll be immediate…..somethin’ larger, and it’ll be 500….yeah that’s all it takes” And that woman was showered with The Lord Bless You and Amen. The two women get off the bus and the three men start to talk about the misorderly conduct woman. One claimed he saw her before in East Liberty. The other said she was WILD and that surely isn’t the only thing she had been charged with. The last said if she was looking for a job….she just needed to realize she was sitting on 100 grand. Did this really just happen?? Anyway, I suppose it was a gift to spice up my day.

I went to my doctor because I have diagnosed myself with lupus. I got blood work and a B 12 injection and…… I guess we’ll see where that goes. I would be extremely happy if it were just a vitamin deficiency, or…really…anything else that’s not a chronic disease.

Another ridiculous moment…Dan took me to Pittsburgh Ballet Theater’s production of Coppelia for V-day. The ballet itself was quite nice. However, before it began this woman freaks out in the aisle. Throwing down her purse, she shrieked that FOOLS! YOU CAN’T TAKE THE MUSIC OUT OF BALLET….or something along those lines. It was so over the top that at first I thought it was part of the ballet… such drama. Ridiculous and I found it v. exciting. The music situation is pretty awful, and canned music does take away from the ballet in whole, but come on.
