Late night speculations
Yeah, I've kept saying it. A real post is still in the works. Frankly, I have something rather emo and personal I do have to get out here eventually, but as I'm just thinking about this now, I wanted to post it here:
So it's nearly 5 AM, and I'm laying out various items I'll need tomorrow. For example: my Hogwarts: A History, Prefect and Head Girl badges (though the last one I'm donning for the book release only), time turner, wand, the entire PoA/GoF/OotP Hermione Gryffindor robes, and so on (I have one last prop to order for the book release and I need to remake my SPEW badge in a few hours, but that's off the point). And I look down at it all and think that while it's pretty excessive in terms of items and props, that every time I put it on, it just feels...right. Like it's the one character, out of all the ones I cosplay, that I feel the most comfortable in. The most at ease in. The one where I look in the mirror at myself and don't pick at my waist or my wig or my acne or anything. Where I don't fret about how awful I look. I could throw it on entirely un-ironed with crappy hair and makeup and still feel so comfortable (not just physically. emotionally) and at peace with myself in it. Maybe it's my love for Harry Potter. Maybe it's the many ways I feel I identify with Hermione as a character. I'm not quite sure what it is, but no matter if I'm wearing one of the two robe sets, the Yule Ball gown, the PoA hoodie outfit, I just feel so content and good in it. Maybe that's why I've always looked forward to book and film releases and Lumos in the past moreso than any other con or cosplay event I've ever been to. Because I just felt so...happy to be putting on a Hermione costume again and representing that character and everything she stands for in the series.
It gives me a strange feeling of content and security. One I'm not particularly familiar with but rather like.
Anyone else have a costume just like this? Or one character just like this, that they feel just completely at ease and happy in? Do you know why?
PS - Two picture posts to come up this week. One will be a full makeup collection update post. One will be an OotP cosplay post/report (spoilers under a cut, of course!). Just in case you want to look for either or both.
PPS - I got wind of one of my birthday presents today (It's not until August 22nd, for the record). Mainly because I had to be brought in for fitting issues. Let me just say I'm ultimately floored. I didn't see this coming. At ALL. Yet I'm quite excited!
