japanese actors meme - favourite actors

I actually finished this post almost a week ago and it's been left sitting on my computer for the last few days.

A very merry Christmas to all.

Ninomiya Kazunari | 二宮和也
Highlights: Freeter, Ie wo Kau, Letters to Iwojima (left)
Low lights: Ooku (right)
Others: GANTZ (middle), Ryuusei no Kizuna, Yamada Tarou Monogatari

Don't fall for his chubby cheeks and lost puppy eyes, because this guy has the meanest tongue in Arashi, only short of MatsuJun on a foul day. He's also a proud hardcore gamer, so it may come as a surprise that he is also an amazing actor in his age cohort, especially given that his acting CV is surprisingly short.

The first time I watched him was in Ryuusei no Kizuna, next to a well-cast Ryou and a rather bland role for Erika. Koichi wasn't the most interesting of characters, far from at all charismatic, and there were all sorts of problems with the script. But I could never forget the climatic scene in which Nino single-handedly pulled the mood up to standard and actually moved a thoroughly wooden Miura Tomokazu - a TV veteren twice his age - into weeping in a way that matched what the scene demanded.

I've never managed to bring myself to watch Clint Eastwood's Letters to Iwo Jima, for which Nino won international acclaim. Nor was I able to finish Freeter, Ie wo Kau, another human drama that attracted critical praise. But for all his idol roots, Nino has none of the posturing that plague his colleagues. His surprising range of very human emotions allow him to play the difficult everyman roles with conviction.

Eita | 瑛太
Highlights: Nodame Cantabile (right), Voice (left)
Low lights: Sunao ni Narenakute
Others: Last Friends, Sapuri

He, of the untameable hair. I have to say, a lot of Eita's stories are interesting, but his characters are not. They are always everymans, not the most charismatic, not the smartest, not the hottest, sometimes not even the guy who gets the girl. But Eita always turns them into someone likeable, without turning them into himself.

He's been the crazy rock violinist in Nodame, and the mild-tempered anatomical pathologist in Voice, and the moderate dickhead in Sunao ni Narenakute, but he's somehow brought an earnestness to all of them, while still keeping them distinct.

If he were a food, he'd be the miso soup. The unremarkable presence that makes things so much better, simply by being there. I am looking forward to his cold cop versus hot-headed MatsuJun in Lucky Seven!

Narimiya Hiroki | 成宮寛貴
Highlights: Yankee-kun to Megane-chan (left), Saigo no Bansan, Bloody Monday (right)
Others: Gokusen (yes, the original), Juui Doolittle (middle), Innocent Love

I am not sure which talent agency he's with, but he always seems to get interesting and diverse roles, from psychopathic villain to loving vet and anything in between. He's never really slipped up or felt awkward in anything I've seen of him.

He's probably the most versatile young actor I can think of off the top of my head. He seems to get a lot more hotheaded roles, possibly because he can do them without any bashfulness, but he's been amazing when he's been called on to do emotional acting such as in Saigo no Bansan. He also has the most adorable cat-like grin =w=
