Oscars are tonight...

This year, for some strange reason, I am not interested in the Oscars. Perhaps it's because LOTR have already done its full run--and has won its fair share. But to be honest, the line-up this year doesn't seem to interest me one bit--except for Ray. I know its lead actor has a good chance of winning Best Actor. Except for that, however, I have no ( Read more... )

Credit cards.

*shudder* Credit cards are, in general, a bad idea for college students. Exorbitant interest rates coupled with the spending habits of 20-somethings with money leads to lots of problems down the road. A wisely-used credit card isn't a bad thing, but if you've got to have a credit card to go on a vacation, that's probably not wise use.

Even so, I have no credit whatsoever. I only got savings and that's it. If I want credit, I need a checking account. *sighs* Figures...

*smirk* a wisely used credit card on a budget plan. depending upon how much you pay for a vacation, you may be able to pay it off quickly.

Wisely-used, yes. Budget plan, yes. But I remain thoroughly convinced that a large proportion of college students are incapable of being wise or budgeting.

Besides, it's hard to consider a card with a 12% interest rate "wise."

I'm not calling it a cure all. That would be stupid, especially when applied to college students and most Americans. However, if you think Lisa is amoung those who is incapable of being wise or budgeting, by all means, continue.

This is why you pay it off quickly.

He doesn't think I'm incapable. I'm just saying that I haven't gotten around to getting a checking accout--and therefore some credit--YET. I gotta get this semester out of the way first.

No checking account? Ohhh, you're like me, then. *grin* But, that's partially because I don't like people handling my money for me.

I trust that Lisa is a cut above the average. But I also know that managing credit card debt is a lot harder than most people expect. I simply don't want Lisa to think she's got it under control and find out the hard way that she doesn't. These are precautionary warnings. If she decides that it's still in her best interest (no pun intended) to get a credit card, that's her choice, but I wanted to help make that an informed choice.
