I have to say a few things about the whole Tonight Show debacle.
First off, I'm with Conan. You can say he's a whiny baby for not just taking the 12:05 slot, but he had a good reason. 12:05 would NOT be the Tonight Show, it would be the Early Tomorrow Morning Show. Even if you say that Conan is being childish for his anti-NBC rants, it's nothing new for him - he ALWAYS makes fun of NBC!
Leno was initially cancelled - the fact that NBC decided to make scheduling changes was an afterthought. He said he was going to retire after the "changing of the guard." So he took on another project, and then he failed. He should bow out gracefully.
I hate to see this week as the last week of Conan's Tonight Show run. He has flocks of supporters, and he's greeted many of them at the rally in California (outside the studio). Leno doesn't have the crowd of supporters, just the ones who watch his show who say he's better. They're not coming out in droves, in the rain, just to show support. NBC should take all of that into account and give the people what they really want - CONAN!
The demographic that's supporting Conan is my generation, a bunch of kids who grew up on Ren And Stimpy, who stayed up late just to watch his antics on Late Night. Those same antics have been copied by Letterman after Conan was on the Tonight Show, as a ploy to take Conan's audience. Between that and the scandals, Letterman took the ratings lead from Conan early on. Conan has barely had a chance on the Tonight Show, but what he's done so far is worthy of keeping him around.
However, if this is really the end, he's definitely going out with a bang!
