(First: I am so excited that Flogging Molly was on Conan last night! I saw them in concert in March and have been in love with them since I was 17, aka 9 years, so this was awesome! Also, I got a pic with one of the guitarists at the concert, so even cooler to see them on TV)
That out of the way, I may have good news. I applied for a job at my alma mater and got called in for an interview next week! Typically higher education jobs only call in 3 people for an interview because each interview is 3 hours long with each person meeting different groups and conducting a presentation. So yay! If I DID get hired then I would start July 15 - and my last day of my current contract is June 30.
THAT MEANS I would have 2 weeks of vacation time! AND since I'd already have a job lined up that would mean that I will have EXTRA money to travel somewhere exciting! Considering this would be my last long vaycay for who knows how long, I want to make it count.
So I am making a list of possible places and, if you have ideas, am up for feedback.
OH, THE PLACES I COULD GO!
1) Cross country road trip: Bought a new car last year and it has 30,000 miles so a road trip would be awesome and doable (although gas money is LOCO). Plus, I've always wanted to do this. I've been to: NYC, Boston, DC, Miami, New Orleans, AL, KY, OH, MI, Chicago, Austin, Las Vegas, SanFran, Seattle, and Portland, so I've hit up pretty much the coastal regions. It would be great to see the random middle parts of the country, like the Grand Canyon. Also, I could take my recently HS grad brother with me as a grad gift.
2)Fly to Europe:
a) Paris: See the Lourve!
b) Rome, Naples, Venice: Been to Rome but I would love to go again and hit up the rest of Italian hot spots
c) London: Would love to go and have wanted to forever
d) Dublin: I've got Irish roots and have wanted to visit for years. Problem with Ireland is you have to do a lot of in-country driving because everything is so far spaced apart
e) Moscow: Took Russian Culture in college and there's something about Russia that is very appealing. I would love to go.
f) Oslo: I have a cousin who lives there but we're not close at all. Still, maybe...
g) Prague: Just cuz it's supposed to be beautiful
h) Amsterdam: I don't smoke so it doesn't have that appeal for me but it still would be cool
3)Pacific
a) Australia & New Zealand: Problem is, tickets are very expensive. I could do $1,000 for europe for $2,000 is likely too loco
4) South America/Central:
a) Argentina, Chile, Peru, etc: My spanish isn't what it used to be so even though I'd love to go *someday* I don't know if I trust my skills while traveling alone. le sigh
5) Asia: It would be great to visit India, Japan, Thailand, but airfare would be about as expensive as Australia.
So basically it would be a ROAD TRIP or Europe. HMMMMMMMMMM.... Suggestions??
