It was an.... interesting day.
Got hit hard Friday night/yesterday with a cold. So I woke up this morning feeling a bit better. Let myself sleep in until I had enough time to get a shower and get dressed before picking up my Dad at noon without pushing too much. Grabbed some cereal for breakfast and sat on my bed to eat. My foot slipped between the side of the waterbed mattress and the frame while eating. When I got up, my foot was wet. Ok, not good. So I stuck my hand between the mattress and frame and yep, there was water. Started pulling pillows and such off the bed and they were soaked too. Waterbed sprung a leak. So I ran around looking for my tub of extra waterbed stuff and the pump to drain it.
Called my friend Brent, to see if he could help me fix it later that night, got my roommate to watch the pump while it drained and ran around trying to get ready to go pick up Dad.
Ended up at Mom and Dad's about 1/2 hour late. But still had plenty of time to drive to Omaha for a Father Daughter afternoon to see Monty Python's Spam-a-lot. Dad had sent me the first information he found about Spam-a-lot when it first started in theaters. When I found out there was a touring production of it coming close I asked if Dad wanted to go and got us tickets for his birthday present. The show was hilarious, bits of the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Flying Circus and new stuff too. Some of the older skits were updated for the times and tailored for the location such as mentioning famous Nebraskans such as Warren Buffet and Ernie Chambers (who's name got a mix of laughs and boos).
After the show Dad decided we should go out to dinner. So he directed me to a little Mexican place, but they were closed. So we took back roads, gravel roads and I was pretty much lost. Dad had a good idea where we were though, I definitely did not get his sense of direction. We finally ended up at this little road side bar on the river that you'd never find if you didn't know it was there. The food was really good, but it is definitely more of a summer place, it seemed like everyone else in there knew each other. We took some more back roads on the way home, different route they take with their British cars when they go driving around. It was an enjoyable day just hanging out with Dad, which we don't get to do very often.
Got home and called up Brent, he and Shane showed up to help me fix the waterbed. Unfortunately the break was on a reinforced corner where the mattress went bad so it was unrepairable. Luckily I had my old mattress so the boys helped me set and fill up that one. So far so good, though I'm going to miss my waveless mattress. Probably time to give up on the waterbed and look into a normal box spring and mattress. Or at least something to keep in the back of my mind if I run across a good sale. Finding waterbed stuff is almost impossible around here anyway.
So yeah, it's been an interesting but not necessarily bad day.
