First CNY overseas

I've never spent CNY overseas cos my dad is the super traditional Chinese father. He believes that reunion dinner must be eaten naturally during dinner and that since I'm married, I don't have to eat reunion dinner with my parents and instead should eat it with my in-laws, and most importantly that CNY has to be spent at home so we never went overseas for CNY.

I'm not really a traditional kind of person, we didn't decorate our place for the past 5 years in Singapore and I never bought much CNY goodies, usually my mum is the one who will buy and give them to me. So I thought spending my first CNY overseas will be alright, though I must say it did feel a little strange that there was no holiday here and no reunion dinner to be had with my in-laws (though we usually just eat like nasi padang cos my MIL doesn't cook, long story). I ended up cleaning the house on Saturday morning and then going off to CentralWorld for a late shabu-shabu lunch. We also watched Les Miserables, which I completely hated by the way, so all in all a pretty normal day just like any other. Oh, we also did 'lo hei' so that was probably the most CNY-like thing we did, lol...

The rest of the week went by as usual with me bored out of my tears at work. Am beginning to feel the politics at play at work which is really quite sian. The senior who's from my ex-company is turning out to be quite the master at playing politics so am a bit wary of her now. I also brought 'yu sheng' to office which was quite fun. Think my colleagues quite liked it but then again I can't be sure.

In other slightly more exciting news, I've finally started private Thai lessons. A friend of a friend we met apparently did it at work and now after about a year, he can understand the jokes his Thai wife's friends said and also read the Thai characters. The teacher gave me a free demo and the actual class will be tomorrow. The demo class was a little stressful since I had to speak completely in Thai. Let's see how it goes tomorrow. Also CS is away for training (AGAIN) but oh well nothing we can do about it.

Another boring week lies ahead, but there is the prospect of the company trip to Krabi. The boss is apparently joining my group for our snorkeling trip (horrors of horrors!) on the 2nd day where it's free and easy. It's my first time doing snorkeling so I should be more concerned about that I think.

Here's to another week and hoping I'll survive it!
