Name: Rebecca, but most call me Becky, or some variation of Rebecca (which I prefer).
Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): I'm 19 currently, 20 in December.

Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.)
lodessa referred me to this community.
How much time are you willing to invest in this community? As much as possible. I'm currently a student studying a degree, and since it's summer I'll have a lot of time free as I only work part time. I'm particularly interested in the RPG, which I only got into a few months ago. I will try my best to contribute a good amount to the community.
PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books? Yes.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is my favourite out of the six books, because it is a transition between the characters being children to becoming adults. Order of the Phoenix is highly vivid, and a lot darker than the first four books. As I am a little older than the audience that the books were originally intended for, I very much enjoyed a more complex plot with darker, more intense scenes; Harry facing, and overcoming death, for example. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire would be my next choice. It is structured in a way that keeps the reader encouraged to read on. What I mean is, once Harry has jumped one hurdle, there is another that we must see him overcome; once he has heard the riddle inside the golden egg, he then has to figure out what it means. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban would be next, simply because it introduces us to Sirius and Remus. Both of these characters are complex and lovable. You don't know whether Sirius is out to hurt Harry, and until the end, you don't find out. It is full of twists and turns, and of course, Harry finds the truth about how his parents died. Then Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, as it is the key book in the series. You are introduced to all the characters, and of course this is where the story begins. I very much enjoyed the potion's challenge near the end of the book (which was subsiquently left out of the film). Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was a good read, although I do not feel it had that spark as the other books have.
I have read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but because it is still too close to the release date, I am going to refrain from including it in my answer due to spoilers. If anyone wishes for my opinions on the book, however, feel free to ask me and I will elaborate.
I enjoy the books because they are a way to escape the real world. To delve into a place that is so thick and vivid that you have little choice to begin to believe that it is real.
2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).
Slytherin: Slytherin is a house that is misunderstood. The stereotype is that the members of this house are evil. There is a difference between sly intelligence, cunning and wit and evil. The atmosphere is of superiority. Slytherins do their very best to get exactly what they want, by any means possible. Although this, again, does not necessarily mean they are using "evil" means to get what they want; they are just cunning and clever about it. I think most are intimidated by the Slytherins. They hold their heads up high and walk around with a superior air about them; it makes people immediately stop and look. They seem pretty loyal to each other, but at the end of the day it's about looking after yourself to get the highest amount of respect possible.
Gryffindor: Gryffindor is a house of mischief. Remus, Sirius and James were completely mischevious (with the Marauder's Map and James' invisibility cloak, who wouldn't be?). Harry, Ron and Hermione bend the rules. They have a "certain disregard for the rules," as a stereotype. Gryffindors run on emotions and gut feelings. When Harry thought Sirius was in danger he flew right off the handle without checking anything out first; his instinct was to protect that which he loved. Gryffindors are corageous, of course. Neville stood up to his friends in First Year, just to pick out one example. They are bold and daring, generally (Fred and George's exit in book five). The atmosphere tends to either be joyous and fun or tense. They are short tempered. I think that the other houses look up to Gryffindor because of their daring; they will do things that no else dares to do, or dares to say (Harry to Umbridge). It tends to get them in a lot of trouble, but they are mostly looking out for the best interests of themselves and their friends.
Ravenclaw: Ravenclaw are generally known for their studiousness and booksmarts. They seem to keep themselves to themselves. Ravenclaws seem quiet and sensible, although there have been exceptions to this rule. Luna Lovegood is an example of this; she doesn't seem outwardly smart, just quirky and strange. She has obviously seen death (she can see the Thestrals). I think that Ravenclaw doesn't really get the attention it deserves; like Hufflepuff. We know very little really about Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff; the books are centred mainly around Gryffindor and Slytherin. Ravenclaws are logical and smart; although I don't think that their studiousness necescarily means they have life-smarts (common sense). Cho's friend Marietta obviously had little common sense not to realise that there would be a way to find out who told Umbrige about the DA. Hermione Granger was not put in Ravenclaw because of her emotional drive; she is smart, yes, but she more often than not runs with her heart instead of her head, which is what separates the two houses from each other.
Hufflepuff: I honestly don't think Hufflepuff gets enough credit. Hufflepuff, in my mind, are a little piece of every house. They are brave (Cedric Diggory), loyal to each other, hard working and studious. Hagrid mentioned Hufflepuff being a "lot of duffers", and people tend to think that Hufflepuff took anyone who was less than up to par to fit in with the other houses. This is, of course, a load of tripe. Hufflepuffs are known for their honesty and being "Just and True". A lot of people have stereotyped Hufflepuff as being weak, but I think that Hufflepuff are the strongest of the houses, because they have elements of them all. People easily push Hufflepuff aside because they do not have any stand-out characteristics like the other houses. They're not known for one specific thing, which creates the stereotype that they're not good for anything, really. Hufflepuffs get the jobs they need to do done, and they do it to the best of their ability. They look out for everyone, not just themselves.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)? Really strange, I know, but I think it would be grass. I'm not being funny, I honestly think that it would be that. I love the smell of fresh cut grass, the way your senses fill up with it like it's summer. Grass reminds me of sunshine and light, and spending lazy days in fields with your friends, or sitting out in the sunshine with a good book. I like nothing more than a long summer's day, a good book, and peace and quiet.
4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why? I would like to be a beater. I should imagine that it's really good to relieve stress and tension, and when I enjoy the precision of things like rounders (kind of like baseball); In school I always used to be able to hit hardest and furthest, and it gave me a rush. I also would be a beater to protect my other team mates from the opposing team, of course.
5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?
6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why? Lord of the Rings. It is my favourite book because it, like Harry Potter, pulls you into a world so different and yet so alike to our own that you have little choice to believe in it. I love the adventure that you are taken on with Frodo and the ring, the way that the light battle for everything that is right and good. I love the sub-plots; Aragorn's struggle with returning to the throne of Gondor, the love between Aragorn and Arwen, the growing friendship between elf and dwarf that was previously rife with rivalry. It just amazes me the stretch of JRR Tolkien's imagination. The book is like magic to me.
7. What would your Room of Requirement look like? Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's hut, it would be big. Very big. You would open the door and it would be like a field, with trees and flowerbeds and long grass. The sun would be shining and it would be pleasantly warm. The grass would be springy under my nude feet. My friends would all be laughing and play fighting, or reading or writing or doing something that is fun to us (and themselves), but they would be there. We would be free from technology; no computers, no cell phones, none of that; just me, my friends, and all the time in the world to be with them and have fun in a beautiful surround with the fresh air.
8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design. My wand would be of oak, 8 inches with a Phoenix feather core. I have been fascinated and intrigued by phoenixes for as long as Harry Potter has been around (although I'm aware there have been tales of them before Harry Potter), and they seem like the core of the magical creatures to me. Oak is just a beautiful wood, we have a park nearby that is full of beautiful oak trees that I love.

What's Your Personality Type? 10. Who do you admire most and why? My friend Saff. She has come through so much stuff that I couldn't even think about coming through, but when life throws inundated amounts of bad luck at her, she just picks herself up and carries on. She is so brave and so emotionally strong in ways that I'm just not, and I look up to her very much. She confides things in me and I try and look after her, so to speak. She's one of my best friends, and very dear to me.
11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life? I want to do something that makes a difference. I want to be creative. I want to write my own novel. I want to make films and dabble in sound production. I want to do something worthwhile. I want to travel and see what there is to see of the world. At the age I'm at now I'm not really thinking about family or getting married, but hopefully someday I'll have those things. I just want to enjoy my time with my friends, make new ones along the road and when I'm 80 years old I want to be able to say I did something to make a difference to someone else, and that I could easily die happy and fulfilled.
12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen? I think I would rather not do the crime; My friends and family are my number one priority. I couldn't do anything that would hurt them, or "commit a crime against them". My friends and family are in one category that's just like "Frieily"... my friends are my family and my family are my friends. I'd protect them to the end of the earth.
13. What would your animagus be and why? A butterfly. Butterflies are so beautiful and they always symbolise peace and beauty to me. If I was reincarnated I'd want to be a butterfly; the freedom and love of flight is what draws me in most.
14. What would your patronus be and why? A phoenix. They, as I have already pointed out, are the core of magic to me; I'm fascinated by them. And Fawkes protected Harry in the Chamber of Secrets by pecking out the Basilisk's eyes; ever since I've seen them as a symbol of protection.
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why? Auror, because I want to protect the people I love from harm. Honestly, my one weakness is people; I'd do just about anything for my friends and my family.
