LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION

Name: Manpreet. It means full of love. Everyone calls me Mani though.

Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): 14.

Location: Southern New Jersey

Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) I heard about the community from a good friend of mine. Her lj user name is savestheday91. I love her (in the friendly way of course! I’m a girl and I don’t really flow that way...not that I have anything against it!).

How much time are you willing to invest in this community? I’m willing to invest a lot of time. I happen to be in love with Harry Potter like everyone else in this community! Plus I have a lot of extra time on my hands when I’m not in school or occupied by tennis.

PART 1 - Canon

1. Have you read all the books? Yes! What kind of fan would I be if I didn’t own and know every book?! That’s crazy talk! I need to re-read the 5th book for the 21st time so I have it fresh in my memory before HBP comes out.
I love all the books and they have their own spot on my shelf. Although my brother’s pesky, yet cute, best friend took my 2nd book away like a million years ago…I must get that back when he comes back from college if he’s not already here.

2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).
Gryffindor: I personally think that Gryffindors are more laid back and fun to hang around with. They strike me as the joking manner kind, but yet still very hard working at school and whatnot. Hermione for example is very hard working, but she still has her sense of humor at times which I love. Fred and George fall into that category as well but maybe they’re more hard working at making people laugh? lol. Of course Gryffindors are leaders and very brave, as they are supposed to be. They all work together very well and it seems to me that they all care about one another and they’d do almost anything for their house. Gryffindor seems like the kind of place where you’d like to be just because they’re full of energy.

Slytherin: Ah….the so called evil Slytherins. In my own opinion, I don’t think they’re that evil. No one is born evil. I think it’s just that the way they were all raised makes them evil. So, I think most of them have a soft spot somewhere. Ok anyway, I think they’re smart. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve always thought Gryffindors and Slytherins were the same in some ways. It’s weird to say that because they’re enemies, but they really do sound alike sometimes. They both just work differently. They seem very secretive. You never know what’s going on with them and most of their lives. I think they stick together a lot. The reason? No idea lol; maybe because they want to keep that secretiveness? Who knows?

Ravenclaw: The first thought that comes to mind is: “Wow they’re really smart!” Well technically they are smart! They’re known as the bookworms and really nerdy people, and they possibly are. They all seem to work really hard at school and try to keep their standards up since they were placed into Ravenclaw. We haven’t seen THAT many people from Ravenclaw, but one of the one’s that I really like is Luna. She’s smart, completely different from others, and blunt which most girls aren’t. She has the dreamy like aura around her and she doesn’t seem like the rest of the Ravenclaws. I think that’s what makes me think that Ravenclaws might not be that nerdy considering Luna doesn’t seem nerdy to me. Just a bit…..out there.

Hufflepuff: Now, is it just me or have we seen like only five people from this house? But from what I’ve heard and read, they are the workers. They don’t seem as smart as the Ravenclaws, as brave as the Gryffindors, and as cunning as the Slytherins, but they’re sort of a mix of all of them. None of them fit into any of the other houses. They’re sort of their own person and like outcasts sort of. They don’t fit into any of the clichés, I guess you would say but they’re still good people.

3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)? My favorite flavor of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans would probably be grass or soap. That might sound really, really weird but I tried the Beans from Borders before and those two were actually really good. I would also like cherry, watermelon, and strawberry. They’re my favorite flavors in almost everything like Jolly Ranchers. I like the fruit as well.

4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why? Oh, I would love to play beater. I have some little anger issues. I guess being a beater would help me get the anger out lmao. Plus, I’ve always helped my friends and team out by pushing them out of the way if anything ever came by so I guess I could do that being a beater as well.

5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)? Does believing that Harry and Hermione will end up together count?

6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why? Oh this is hard. Well I really do like to read which is odd for someone my age considering most teens that I’ve met find reading boring and a waste of time. I’m going to name three books since I can’t pick one lol. I liked reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. It was a good book and it was interesting to read how animals overthrew humans and took control! They form their own government! Like, when does that ever happen? I also really liked The Giver by Louis Lowry. That was actually also somewhat about government. The book was completely different from others that I’ve read in the past because everything is supposed to be perfect and they have no idea what is outside in the real world (if there is one!). Plus the ending could be anything. I read the book three times and every time I think there’s a different ending! Now the last book is actually a series. I read one of the books in the fourth grade and now it’s being made into a movie. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis is a part of the Narnia Chronicles. I think I’ve read all of the books in the series and if I haven’t, I bought the whole series in one huge book so I can just go back and re-read. The books are so imaginative and fun to read. They’re serious at times, funny at other times, and basically everything else is in the books. And I just realized that most of the books I like, take place somewhere completely different from our world.

7. What would your Room of Requirement look like? Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's hut…I’d put a huge tennis court in there but I’m not sure if that’s possible. So, I’d have a nice, huge, comfy bed and two couches on a blue rug in front of a big flat screen TV where I would watch movies all day. Some lounging chairs, like the one that Chandler bought on Friends, would be nice to have as well. A huge fireplace would be cool to have somewhere in the room and maybe some shelves of books by the bed. I’d like the room to have all different types of food like Indian, Chinese, and Italian. There’d have to be a lot of chicken and Italian ice. Ramen noodles and tater tots are necessities. Oh and a mini tennis court would be nice as well.

8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design. My wand would be around 11 inches long because I’m a klutz sort of and if I dropped a short wand, I wouldn’t have that much to catch onto. If I could, I’d make it non-breakable so that…erm….it never breaks if someone tries to or if I accidentally step on it which I used to do with my glasses before I got contacts. I’d like the core to be a feather of any bird or animal really. I really don’t have a reason for that.

10. Who is your role model and why? I never liked these questions to tell you the truth. I don’t think I’ve always looked up to one person. Most people say their parents but I’m not sure if I really want to be like them. Although recently, like a year ago or so, I met a wonderful person who is just…the perfect girl that you could ever meet. She’s uber smart (was valedictorian), completely hysterical, fun to be around, kind, loves tennis, and is the type of person you always wanted to be. Plus she’s Jewish! What more could you want to be like?

11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life? Wow…considering I’m only 14, I’m not fully sure what I want to accomplish when I’m older. I guess I just want to be respected by my peers and my family. I want to prove to my mom and dad and everyone else that I can be better than both of my brothers. I want to go to a good university and have good grades like any other person would. I’m not sure what career I want to go into but whatever it is, I want to be really good at it and again, I want to be respected at my job by my fellow co-workers. I’d like to get married and knowing my family and traditions, etc, I will get married. I’d like some kids as well. What I really, really want is to travel to all four Grand Slams in tennis (if you already couldn’t tell, I’m a tennis fanatic!) and traveling the world in general is something I’ve always wanted to do. Oh and I’d LOVE to go bungee jumping and sky diving.
But all in all, I would just be happy having a healthy, wonderful life with my family and friends.

12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen? I generally care more about disappointing my kin rather than my country. I mean, if I decide to do something against my family and tradition like marriage for example, I would be sort of an outcast in my world (meaning my Indian world). I doubt it’d make the newspapers of New York Times or The Press of Atlantic City. I could probably lose my family and I’m not willing to do that. If I did something against America, I would still have my family to fall back against. They’d always support me. If I did something against my kin, who do I have to support me? America? Sorry, I don’t think that’ll happen anytime soon.
Truthfully, I really wouldn’t commit a crime in the first place. If it was something huge and horrible, I don’t see myself doing it to anybody.

13. What would your animagus be and why? I’d love to be a kangaroo. They seem like so much fun and bouncing around just to walk, looks like it’d burn a lot of calories. There’s my exercising right there! The pouch could also come in handy to hide my wand if I ever have to hide the fact that I’m a witch. That would actually be always….

14. What would your patronus be and why? My patronus would be a white tiger. Obviously, they’re known to be fierce so they would be a good protector for me if dementors ever attacked. Even though they may be fierce, they are pretty loveable and they attach to people well from what I’ve seen in person.

15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why? My first thought for this question was, “Hmm…how about Minister of Magic?” Being the first woman at something (I’ve never noticed the books saying anything about a woman Minister before) has always been something I’ve wanted to do in my life. I always defended myself and women in general whenever in Social Studies class two years ago, or History if you want to call it that, we talked about male presidents. I said that one day there will be a women president; you just have to wait for it and then my teacher made me president for that period lol. If I get too scared for that job I’d like to work somewhere in the Ministry (not sure where yet) or I’d like to own my own coffee shop/café where anyone can come in and eat. I love coffee and having a coffee shop would be something new and fresh to try out.
