The institution of a curfew was enough to send Croix's suspicions through the roof. Governments do not pull moves like this unless they have something to hide. Actively. Frankly, it was a rather dated method, too. Still, it was just the push he needed to finally see about getting into that town hall that everyone seemed to insist housed the way home. Also, what better time to do it than after curfew? Maybe he'd run into whatever it was they were hiding ( ... )

For a long moment, he both debated making a run for the forest anyway or dealing with the new problem quickly before continuing on. After that moment was over, he'd concluded that he'd waited this long in the town and that he was better off dealing with the distraction now before it became an issue later. As quietly as he could, he crept along the edge of the bushes until he reached the corner of the townhome. The little dot on the motion tracker had disappeared, but he knew well enough that whoever was there had merely stopped moving.

"Agent Washington, you are allowing yourself to become distracted!" scolded the very unwanted voice in his head.

He wasn't about to honor it with another response and instead said in a firm voice loud enough for the new person to hear, "Identify yourself now or I might have to do something unpleasant."

Croix actually hadn't heard his approach, only felt like something was drawing closer. The feeling was enough for him to start planning various ways to bolt for safety - he didn't want to strike anyone unless he had to. But then, he recognized the voice...

"Washington?" he whispered, standing slowly, hands by his side and away from his weapons.

Alarm sirens had started to go off as soon as he was done speaking, much to his annoyance as he had no need for them and the mental intrusions were becoming quite annoying by now. The moment he heard Croix speak, however, the mental alarms immediately ceased. He did have to force his hand to relax and remove his finger from the trigger of the magnum pistol he had in his hand.

"Croix." He took a step out beyond the corner of the home, just enough so the young man could see him. There was a slightly snarky undertone to his words as he continued. "You shouldn't be out here this late at night. Someone might think you were up to something."

Croix's response was actually a shade of a smirk, but it was gone by the time he'd stood up straighter and brushed off his pants.

"I'm not up to anything that doesn't need doing," he answered simply, "and I wasn't planning on getting spotted." He momentarily wondered if Washington just always wore his armor, then wondered if maybe he was up to something, too. "Are you going to send me home, then?"
