[around 1 p.m., no matter where you might be at the time, a text message and a photo attachment are sent to every CAT unit and read as follows:]

To celebrate the septicentennial of Luministi's founding, all new residents have been invited to a special dinner just for them at the newly opened treehouse restaurant known as The Chrysalis. This ( Read more... )

[After spending a very long time looking at the bulletin board of Luministi's history (especially relative to it's small size), Fuu goes to buy a kimono for the occasion, goes home to get ready, and arrives at 'The Chrysalis' promptly at 5.]

[The construction of the restaurant is breathtaking, and Fuu enjoys walking around a little, sipping orange juice and appreciating the view.]

[Her mind full of the oddly brief history of the 700 year old town, she's discreetly looking for people to chat to about it. Although, of course, she wouldn't be opposed to a more casual conversation either.]

Nice view, isn't it? [steps up beside her] Never really noticed just how nice the rest of forest was. Imagine what it'll be like watching the fireworks from here.

[Fuu smiles happily at the Doctor. It's always a pleasure to speak with him (although occasionally mind-bending).]

It will be spectacular. I worried that I might be missing the summer fireworks back home, so I'm glad I get to see some here.
Have you had the opportunity to enjoy many firework shows?

It's summer for you, eh?

Ohhh, I've seen countless different displays--even put on a few myself! [though, to be fair, those ones weren't exactly with fireworks...]

That it is! And I hope it still will be.

[Grin~]

I could only imagine that the displays you have seen are simply beyond amazing. And you're talented with pyrotechnics too!

Ah~, it's too late now, but it might have been nice to take some pictures.

[he can remember a few dozen that were spectacular]

It would do, if either of us had a camera.

Oh! That's right, I had something I wanted to ask you. A couple days ago, did you happen to lose a minute's time?

[Fuu perks up at that - for all that small talk is enjoyable enough, there are other mysteries to consider.]

You mean, it happened to you too? ...No, I shouldn't be surprised, should I.

[For some reason she had held an impossible hope that she'd been the only one to lose that time. But deep down she'd known.
She's been anxious before, even deeply concerned about the observers being in their brains to do the translations. But this... For them to have such control over all of them as to render them helpless in seconds - this is frightening.]

[A tinge of fear in her eyes, Fuu whispers as softly as she can and still have him hear.]

...Doctor. If they can do that to us, what can we possibly do?

Nope. [though he was surprised it had happened to him as well as Brax]

[puts a hand on her shoulder, his voice soft] We'll find a way to stop it, I promise.

[Reassured by the Doctor's words and gesture Fuu nods, not trusting her voice for a moment. She pulls herself together, thinking of not only getting out of here for her own sake, but for everyone else as well. Everyone here, and everyone back home. She'd promised herself to never let her family or friends worry about her, and now she's been missing for a month.]

[Fuu tries to smile lightly.] Every time something seems impossible, like~ oh, say, statues moving or damage being mended in a minute, it happens. So even if getting back seems impossible, maybe there is a grain of possibility somewhere after all.

There's always a possibility. [smiles] We haven't exhausted everything just yet.

[Smiles in return, and it is a bit more genuine now.]

It's just this town's motto is getting in the way! [Which was, of course, to say, 'insufficient information.']

Oh, and I had something I was going to ask you as well. Have you seen the town's historical display yet? [Which was a very generous description of the display, indeed.]

I'd say it's more like the town's motto being true to form! Especially with the historical display, which I have seen. Not much to speak of for seven hundred years of existence. Shame about that fire...

[Nod]
It is... terribly condensed, to put it kindly. I couldn't imagine trying to fit 700 years of Tokyo's history into a bulletin board like that, and it's suffered plenty of disasters.

And it's just so full of oddities! My favorite is the similarity of the founding father's name to the current Mayor's: Calhiggins and Caligin. And how they surreptitiously didn't mention the famous family who was exiled and then restored.

That's the funny thing about records. They always leave out the important bits right when it gets interesting.

[Shakes her head with a grin]

It's the town's policy!

[Wondering that the Doctor wasn't extrapolating out his answer like he'd previously tended to, she decides to leave talking about the town's history for now. Besides, she did want to follow his advice and not stare at a 'tree' for so long that she forgot the forest.]

But for you to say 'always', what kind of records have you looked through? Surely record-keeping hasn't gotten worse by the time you're from?

Well, it varies depending on where you are. Different systems for different folk. Some still rely on things the old systems like computers with a Windows OS system, handwritten journals and ledgers. Some go for data cubes. Little crystal-like structures that can store more information in them than everything in this town's library and still would have room to spare.
