Projects and Progress

Otakon planning is sorta kinda coming together. We're sailing with a bit of a skeleton crew this year, but I think we'll manage.

I have booked the suite for Otakon 2011 already. Also, Katsucon 2011. I'm getting a jump on this shit early in the hopes of conning the Hyatt into giving us a rate that isn't comparable to assault and battery.

I have begun learning to play the guitar. It is both extremely pleasurable and extremely traumatic. It's been ten years since I've done anything with a musical instrument, or read sheet music. I was never any kind of musical prodigy, but I got by during my nine-year stint as a saxaphone player. One thing I will say, the guitar is easier on the lungs and harder on the fingertips.

I have finished the prototype for a tabletop card game based on oyster harvesting and pearl farming. Played a test round with Miranda and enjoyed it, and got some good feedback for changes. Going to try and brush it up in time to bring it to Otakon, where I should be able to get some further testing done.

I've also started Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker. I'm enjoying the story so far (about 200 pages in), but the thing that I really feel most compelled to say is that I find the man's magic systems positively inspiring, from a writing perspective.

I have the tattered remains of what has become in all likelihood an aborted short story of my own kicking about, but alas, I am no Sanderson myself.

Ah, well. There's always pearl farming.
