Movement of the Quarter - Education

Normally, I would fight the against the system quietly without sharing. However, this is an issue that hits close to home as I have several friends (including some of you LJ friends) who are in the education area for work in some form or another.

Can you believe that in a day and age where overcrowding is an issue and there is a movement (aka No Child Left Behind) to close 8 of the area's schools. Not sure how or why, other then the primary motive is money, I am sure it all probably boils down to the money. Which is very sad and wrong!

Tonight, after my crazy shift I got to go to the first of a series of meetings for the group that is going to recommend the list of closures to the full school board. I am going to fight with all my might against it. It is wrong in so many ways!

Education should be a priority these days, not a method to cut costs to waste on other projects. America is falling behind and this shows why... California is behind many states and this kind of irresponsibility shows me why we struggle with Math and Science on those wonderful tests that the kids love to take every year!

All I know is that I will be writing some letters and contacting some people to try and make my voice heard! Does anyone have any ideas that I could explore to prove why it should not be done, or ideas of what or who to try and get as an ally in the fight?

8 of the local schools are on the cutting block unless someone comes up with a solution to all the problems that are involved. I will be researching all aspects of the situations and be fighting for the smaller role-model type of schools (on the achievement level) that do not have as much of a voice in the community.

This is my current local level cause that I will be working on, for the next month or so...
