Disgraced gov attempting to place senate seat anyway

Apparently, the Senate's warning that it wasn't going to seat anyone appointed by disgraced Illinois govenor Blagojevich was not sufficient. For whatever reason (pride? to stir up the pot?), word is he's going to assign the seat to former Illinois attornery general.
The general consensus has been that anyone accepting an appointment by Blago would be taking political poison, but perhaps the 71 year old former AG is not considering it anything more than a placeholder.
Although, seriously, the Senate has said it wouldn't allow it, and while odds are bad on the Senate doing things in general, this seems like the sort of thing it might bother itself to see through. I'm just not seeing why Burris is accepting this appointment.
