Warren in Inauguration Ceremony broohaha

Dec 18, 2008 10:34

So, Rick Warren, noted homophobe (oh, and pastor) has been invited to do something religious at the Inauguration Ceremony. Progressives are a little upset.

I've heard a lot of sad aimed at our President-Elect as a result of this. I just want to mention that there are reports that this is a Congressional decision, not a Change.gov decision. As quoted here:
Warroom: Obama and Rick Warren to reunite on Jan. 20
* The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, run by the House and Senate, put together the program for the swearing-in ceremony. Congress, not Obama, invited Warren...

Updates:
* Rumor mill says Feinstein pushes the blame back on Obama.
* The above Warroom link has updated to say that this is BHO's choice.
* Youtube vid - Watch Obama defend his choice.

So, feel free to aim your distate wherever you like. However, I wouldn't personally get my panties in a twist over whether Obama is thumbing his nose at the GLBT community (yet) (~sigh~ Ok. Now, I'm ready to be officially disappointed on this topic.) It's possible since he's taking a lot of flack about it, that he might prevail on Pelosi and Co. to uninvite, but that's seems doubtful.

I return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
