Songs for Anna
In her own journal, mallochai asked people for some "breakup playlist" suggestions, and I spent a good chunk o' time hunting down mp3s of the songs I thought might be good candidates. Then I tried to post the fruits of my labor to her LJ comments section and because of the way I'd embedded the links into the text, they wouldn't work. And so, rather than tackle and deconstruct a crapload of links, I am posting this list here, for Anna, and for everybody. I'm leaving in my original notes to her, because, well...why not?

Lessee. Relationship songs? I think I can think of a few. Ah frak, I'm just gonna troll the Internet for as many of them as I can find, so you can hear them and then decide which ones are worth utilizing:
Joan As Police Woman -- "The Ride" This song is supposedly about a relationship that was just doomed from the start (according to an interview with Joan herself), but my ears detect a very hopeful vibe. (Go to cheaplullaby.com to hear more JAPW songs.)

The Afghan Whigs -- "When We Two Parted" (link to mp3 search result) Deliciously bitter, a must-hear...I do love the Afghan Whigs. Both of their songs on this list come from the incomparable album Gentlemen. It's one of my all-time favorites, and pretty much every song from it could make this list.

Kristin Hersh (feat. Michael Stipe) -- "Your Ghost"
Sun Kil Moon -- "Carry Me Ohio"
Red House Painters -- "Katy Song"
Bat for Lashes -- "What's a Girl to Do?"
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds -- "Shoot Me Down" Well, you said you wanted to cry.
Cranes -- "Beautiful Friend" Cheesy? Perhaps. Still really good? Definitely.
Cranes -- "Driving in the Sun" (Even better than "Beautiful Friend"...this song kills me every time I listen.)
The Cure -- "A Letter to Elise" (Of course. I'm sure you have it, but for completism's sake...I'm on a bit of a kick, you know....)
Sinéad O'Connor -- "The Last Day of Our Acquaintance" (Could only find this live performance on youtube...but it's beautiful.)
Jeff Buckley -- "Last Goodbye" (No duh, right?)
Jeff Buckley -- "Lover, You Should've Come Over" Oof.
Joy Division -- "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (As if I could help it!)
Jeff Klein -- "Steady Wins" Couldn't find the mp3. I was playing this song an appalling number of times per day at the beginning of this year.
Okay, I am making myself stop; this list is huge...and I know I can still think of more!
