I'm in love. Horse love. With a sweet-as-pie and eager to please Thoroughbred named Night. He's currently ownerless and is kind of abandoned right now at this barn I was at today, where my friend boards her horse. I rode him (badly, since my tailbone is whacked, but it was still somewhat gratifying) for about 45 minutes or so, and really liked being on him. Then I spent an inordinately long time grooming him and putting him away so I could spend time with him, because I'm a sappy dork. The barn owner may keep him on as a lesson horse (he'd need some work to get to full "school horse" level since he's an ex-racehorse and hasn't been used in lessons that I know of), or he may get sold elsewhere. Which would suck.
I wish I could afford to lease him, but I can barely afford to lease myself right now, so for the time being I've settled for having a lesson on him this coming Sunday, doing flatwork (everything but jumping for the non-horse peeps). Not that I should be spending my money on that, but hey, it's a small price to pay for some much-needed work on my riding skills AND the chance to hang with this awesome guy.
I mean, I'm currently riding a few times a week for free at another barn, but that's more of a "help these horses to suck less and be able to be used in physical therapy" type of thing than a "work on your seat, legs, and basic skills as a rider" thing.
Man. I haven't liked a horse this much since Lucy at Willowbrooke, and she went away a while ago. Sigh.
