Most of these are math contests written in Canada. Waterloo (University) makes the contests, and names them after mathematicians.
I believe that Galois is one of those soap operas/tragedies... scanning Wiki... his father committed suicide, he failed the entrance exam to a school twice, he died at the age of twenty...
Galois is cool. I think he died in a duel at age 20 or something...on the day before, he suspected he would lose, so he stayed up all night writing down his mathematical ideas. [/random math trivia]
