NYC

Let me first congratulate myself for remembering to update since…well, some time ago.*grins guiltily*
I went to NYC yesterday…. Chinatown to be exact. I had some funny encounters……
Before I recall them, you must understand that most people speak mandarin Chinese there, and I doubt that most of its residents can speak English fluently….I even have doubts that some speak it at all.
So, I went there with my parents and their friends(2). I was squashed (not really) in the middle seat in the back of the 1998 toyota Rav4…. It’s not extremely roomy….
Well, after we arrived there and ate, my family decided to go shopping in the little stores….and at one store, I found some pencil lead that I desperately needed…. But I didn’t know if it was number 2 lead or not, or I asked the cashier…… of course I spoke Chinese to her, since we were in Chinatown, but I overlooked the fact that she was Korean…. So she stared at me like I was crazy until I asked her if she knew Chinese and she said no…….yeah……
Then, we went to a LATIN bakery…. Hispanic people go there….. but then my parents like their ROLO DE HUEVOS…….or roll of eggs……..so I stood in a line behind everyone and waited until its my turn…….and the guy who asked me what I wanted only spoke Spanish. Assuming that I only knew Chinese, he said something to the effect of “God, this is going to be a nightmare.” But then when I ordered in Spanish, he was surprised…..I guess people don’t know that we study it in school…..and I got the things for my parents quite easily… and I did remember to thank the guy in Spanish…..I didn’t waste my two years of Spanish………
All five of us who went there had dinner, and I automatically spoke English to the waiter… I don’t think he understood me at all….Oops.
OK, apart from that, my main reason of going to NYC was to get some real Chinese food!!!!! Haven’t had sautéed ribs with salt and pepper in like half a year…..and nicely cooked clams…..yeah….and these things that are round with like a layer made out of flour on the outside and meat and CRAB MEAT on the inside….and a lot of juice….Ida, you probably know what I’m talking about….these are my absolute favorite and I can only get the authentic ones in NYC…..
Well, after two meals and two drinks(mango slushy and red tea &milk with tapioca ) I was sick on the way back….and our SUV (does it count as one?)’s tire made weird noise so my know-it-all-Philosopher Doctor- Dad took the tire down and looked at it…..the problem was the brake pads were somewhat worn out….it wasn’t bad, so he put the tire back on…but our jack was like too low, so we had to borrow one from someone else and then put the tire back on…..wow……that took an hour…..
Got home at around 10 pm…and ate food and dragon’s eyes(a fruit like lychee) until 11:30…. And woke up at the same time this morning….my mom called me a pig……how nice of her…
Well, that’s all for now. Leave comments people!!!!
