sorry about not posting for the past two days. nothing really happened on monday and last night i was just way too tired.
so lets see, monday i hung out in Mt View. parts of it remind me of Kirkland WA and other parts remind me of someplaces like Monroe or Shorline WA. the down town areas really nice and clean and suburban (like kirkland) but the outer areas are kind of dumpy and run down. lots of "Nail" shops and other places like that. the Rite Aid and Wallgreens both have really old flooring from like the 70's and they have that "old" smell to them. also, i found out that if you dont have a car in mt view, you're kinda stuck where you are. the down town area is all with in walking distance from me, but everything else is kind of far away. that being said, i am choosing to hang out in mt view again today rather then go into San Fran, for 2 reason. 1-we are supose to go to the Apple Corporate store today, some time after 2pm, and thats here in Mt View, and 2-i spent 8 hours walking around in SF yesterday and now my feet hurt and have i blisters on my little pinky toes.
Yesterday was one of my explore SF on my own days. i got up/showered/ate/whatever in the morning, then caught the Caltrain to SF at 10:59am. got to down town at 12:06pm. made my way to market, then to fishermans wharf.
(PAUSE IN WRITING ENTRY FOR SHOWERING, COFFEE GETTING, AND LAUNDRY STARTING)
ok, where was i. oh yeah. so i wanted to take the ferry out to Alcatraz Island, but they have a new company doing it and you have to pre book your trip, so i wasnt able to make the last trip of the day at 2:15pm. i'm going to try for thursday instead. i ended up walking around for a bit, taking photos, and had clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl for lunch. then i went on a short (1 1/2 hour) tour bus ride to golden gate bridge.
this guy was funny, he was doing the whole robot thing like that guy in Euro Trip did, sound effects included :)
photo of alcatraz on a clear day.
signs all around the wharf
they have a wax museum there, and although i didnt actually go into it, these guys were on a revolving display in the entrance way, so i snaped a few photos. L-R Paris Hilton, Donald Trump, and Martha Stewart
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Johnny Depp and George Clooney.
two of the historic streetcars in SF
The Palace of Fine Arts, which was built for the 1915 Worlds Fair. the original one was made out of chicken wire and plaster, but they used concrete when the decided to keep it.
these are the Weeping Women. they use to make a fountain.
outside the dome
OH NOES! this one reminds me of Return To Oz.
going over the Golden Gate Bridge
another one of alcatraz, this one from the middle of the bridge.
i didn't know this guy was in SF. we make a magnet of him at work. hes called The Lone Sailor.
the GG bridge, which is officially painted "international orange" and is always in a state of repainting because it takes 4 years to paint the whole bridge.
a view of SF from the other side of the bridge. we were told we were lucky because this view is usually blocked by fog. yay for us!
finally, a photo with someone i know in it! someone i know being me! it was really windy over there, if you couldnt tell. also, i am wearing the sweatshirt i bought before taking the tour bus, because i KNEW that riding in the top of that open air bus was going to be cold.
our tour bus, with driver Rory wearing the red and tour guide Rachel in the black and green.
going back over the bridge, looking out to the Pacific Ocean. i'm suprised this one turned out at all, it was so windy and bumpy.
random houses
this is supose to be the largest mansion in SF, which is owned by the romance writter Danielle Steel. it was built by a guy a long time ago who was extremely rich and owned a sugar company. when he was 70-80 something he married a lady who was in her 20's, and thats supposedly where the term "sugar daddy" came from.
lastly, the clock tower at one of the Ghirardelli Chocolate factorys.
after that i grabed a street car back down to Market street to do some shopping while i waited for Ryan and his friend Chad to get into town. can i just say, i really dont like bloomingdales. in fact, i just really dont like a lot of the clothes that are out right now. bloomindales, macys, gap. none of it. ok, some things at the gap are ok, but those higher end stores dont seem to have anything that i like. oh well.
caught up with Geoff and Garrett again and went out for chinese food. it was fun, but a little boring for me sometimes, seeing as i was out with two guys who own their own internet business, and googler, and a guy who just got hired on at Apple (Chad), a lot of tech talk happened that went right over my head. but thats ok, i had to expect it hanging out with those guys. :) it was still fun!
today i am trying to rest my poor feet. i need better shoes for all this walking. i'll probably just hang out here til ryan is done between 2 and 3pm, then we'll go to the apple corporate store. apple coffee mugs, sweatshirts, mouse pads, stuff that you cant buy at a regular apple store. fun times!
