A/N: UPDATE YAY.
The last chapter, it was CHO long. Please forgive me. I couldn’t help but write my heart out. It was probably the chapter that had the most happenings. I hope it wasn't too complicated.
Sorry if it kind of broke my fellow YamaShi fans' hearts. (Ohoho, I'm as sad as you probably are since I LIVE for YamaShi.) I just wanted a whole new view of things for a change. Everything else will fall into place though, I promise. :3
Anyway, finally decided to transfer this story on LJ. I hope people read it. :3
Yosha! DOZO! :-D

SEVEN
Yamada was shocked to see what was before his eyes. If it weren't for his dogs barking and pulling, he would have stayed blank and let go of their leashes.
Mirai came up to the dogs and started to pat and coo words in gibberish to them.
Chinen and Yamada on the other hand exchanged weird looks at each other. They were the most shocked creatures they’ve ever seen.
Both made more angry faces and mouthed out words, trying to exchange messages as if wanting to tear each other’s heads off.
Yamada gave an oh-so-you-don’t-say-things-to-your-best-friend-anymore?-face.
Chinen didn’t know they were neighbors. Yamada, Hikaru and him would walk together home after school, but would eventually separate once they’ve reached their detour.
There was no wonder the way was familiar to him.
Mirai finally stood up and turned to the boy in glasses.
“Thank you for your hard work again, Chinen-kun!” She bowed, “and for the melonpan too! I promise I’ll pay you back!”
Chinen smiled at her and said, “it’s okay. You deserved it.”
Yamada’s face grew even more confused than before.
The girl turned to the boy who was apparently still dumbfounded. She waved to him and his two dogs, and walked to her doorstep leaving the two boys alone.
Yamada grabbed his friend by the arm and dragged him all the way to the next corner of their street. He felt like he just had to be mad at something. Although he wasn't really mad, an instinct of his took control of him.
Chinen struggled for him to let go. He wondered why he didn’t tell him that they lived across be street to each other. Yamada knew how much he liked her. There has to be reason why he kept it from him.
“What were you doing with her?!” Yamada asked in an inappropriate term.
His friend couldn’t help but feel as if he was talking to Mirai’s father or something.
Chinen wanted to shout back but being the sensible guy that he is, he just let off a sigh. Why were they about to fight? It was completely pointless.
He then started to talk, “We were doing school work, and I didn’t know I was going to be with her. It’s me who’s the victim here. When were you supposed to tell me that you lived right next to her house?”
He didn’t want to go any further. He was supposed to be in a good mood right now. He was with the girl of his dreams the entire day. Nothing else was supposed to matter. Nothing else was supposed to ruin it.
The taller boy finally let go of his friend and scratched the back of his head in guilt.
“I didn't think that it would matter that much at all.” He tried to defend himself poorly.
They stayed silent for a while.
The atmosphere was so awkward, they had to wait for Yamada’s dog to bark and wake up their senses. The pup cuddled into his owner’s leg as if telling him to calm down or stop being angry.
Seeing this, Chinen couldn't help but finally smile at his friend. Yamada did the same.
--
After the awkward almost-turned-into-a-fight moment, they decided to settle down for coffee.
Chinen sat at the table while Yamada picked up their order.
He then came back with two mugs and a plate of cookies. It was the usual things they ordered when they stopped by here. It was just a little different now since Hikaru wasn't with them. He normally would order a bunch of sweet things for them to gobble down 'til they ran out of things to talk about. Yamada thought it was just Hikaru, but Chinen wouldn't eat as much. So today was really unusual.
“So, tell me about it!” the boy with well-padded cheeks says, sipping on his drink.
Right then, Chinen tells his friend about what happened, trying to fight the urge of talking out loud due to the butterflies, the tingles, and the warmth the memory was giving him.
Yamada couldn’t help but giggle at his antics. It was like he was seeing a whole new side of him; a softer, and not to mention louder side of him. Usually, it would be the opposite. Yamada would talk his heart out, while Chinen just listens and analyzes.
This time it was different. It brought a feeling of brightness to him.
Yamada continued to listen, nod, and laugh around with him until it was almost dark.
After Chinen’s storytelling and sensation of long-hidden feelings of joy, they finally decided to go home.
--
Once again he arrived in his room feeling somehow dead tired.
Listening to a boy’s hidden thoughts was pretty tiring after all. Now he knew how Chinen felt when he and Hikaru would talk about the weirdest of things. The listening was okay, but he just knew that he wasn't used to it yet. After a while he would eventually learn how to. It was only him who was going to be able to hear all these from his usually-quiet friend.
It only just occurred to him that Hikaru felt the same way Chinen did when he first met Mirai. Trouble is, he doesn't know who to help.
Yamada lied down on his bed and felt the heavenly softness of his pillow. Somehow he felt as if he has come home from school. Exhausted.
His eyes were about to shut, until he heard loud voices from outside.
They are noisy as usual. He thought, as he got up from his bed and opened his window.
He narrowed his eyes and he tried to sneak a peek of what was happening in that house.
The Kotas sure know how to catch attention.
After a while he heard a loud slam from the front door of the Kotas'.
Yamada’s eyes widened as he saw a girl storm out of the house.
It didn’t take a genius to know who that was. Mirai was the only living female living in that household.
He rushed downstairs as his mind overloaded with curiosity.
What is she thinking, going out at a time like this? He thought as he remembered the stalkers from yesterday.
He left the house without hesitation.
It’s normal for a guy to feel protective towards a girl even if they were just mere acquaintances. Besides, I’m just being a friend to Hika-chan and Chinen who wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to her. His mind tried to block out other unnecessary thoughts.
He ran and followed her direction.
--
Mirai stopped running and sat down on a swing, trying not to let the tears come out.
I can’t take this anymore. She thought, wiping the tears off her eyes before they dropped down her face.
Just then the swing started to move. She held on as she looked back to see a boy wearing an old t-shirt and jacket with messy hair and baggy pants.
It was Yama-chan.
She turned to face the ground again.
“You know, you shouldn’t be wandering off at this time of the night if you don’t want any more of those stalkers following you.” She heard his voice coming from behind.
They weren’t very close to each other at all since she only just treated him as a random classmate and neighbor. She felt a sudden warmth up her cheeks as she blushed out of shyness.
Yamada continued to push the swing as he waited for a response.
“Is it because I’m the only girl in the house?” She asked to no one in particular.
The guy from behind stopped pushing and just held onto the swing as he pulled and pushed it gently back and forth.
“Is it because nobody understands you?” He used another question in response to hers.
Mirai felt that it was safe to tell him. The feeling of comfort krept up to her the minute he started to push the swing again.
“They would always argue about trivial things and scold me about things I don’t even intend to do.” She began to explain.
Yamada felt like a listener today. He listened to all of Mirai’s rants about her brothers and about how she wishes her mom was with her without having to say a single thing. He felt kind of like a connection between him and her since he’s been living with just his mother and two sisters.
He felt how fragile she was. How hard all these were for her. He even offered his jacket after noticing that she was getting cold from the harsh blow of the wind.
“I’m sorry if I’m making you stay up this late.” She finally retorted, stopping the swing.
She then stood up and faced him, smiling with light tears in her eyes.
Yamada felt his heart skip a beat.
He stared at her for a while, holding onto his chest.
Was this what they felt when they realized their true feelings? Was I only trying to help myself all the while?
Mirai broke their eye contact and looked up the sky.
“Ah! There are so many stars tonight!” she said happily, pointing at the velvet night sky.
Yamada didn’t look up though. He kept staring at her, trying to fight the feelings that were about to take over. He knew what this was going to be. He just doesn't want this to go any further.
There was silence again.
Yamada was about to speak, but was cut off by a call from behind him.
“MI-CHAN!!” he heard.
Mirai looked at who was calling her.
Dai-nii.
Her eyes widened as Yamada turned to see two men from across the park; a short one and a tall one.
He knew right away who these two were.
The tension was high and the wind felt cooler than before. Quickly without saying anything, Yamada bowed to Mirai and tried to just simply walk out of the scene.
His escape was almost a success. Almost.
The tall man blocked his way and grabbed him by the arm.
“Yu-yan, let him go.” The shorter man said, “I’m sure he meant no harm.”
Daiki ran to Mirai and hugged her.
Yuya held onto Yamada and gave off an evil grin.
“I’m sure he wouldn’t mind meeting all of us, ne Mi-chan?” the scariest brother says as he gripped tighter
on her friend’s arm.
Yamada couldn’t help but force an uncomfortable smile at Mirai.
Yappari.

A/N: This one was supposed to be longer. Stupid me accidentally pressed something and all of what I’ve written from the start was gone.
(I seriously cried.)
Redoing it was so troublesome, so I hope you guys appreciate it. I apologize for the mistakes. I’ll most definitely fix it once I’ve re-read it. :3
Belated happy 18th birthday, Suzu-chan!
