Summary : Her hopes and dreams that were connected to this moment, were delayed.
He leaned in closer, closer still.
Quickly, but not fast enough.
She could feel the heat off of his lips, warming her own. She trembled in anticipation but refused to let her fears quash this moment.
She closed her eyes, waiting, thinking finally... Finally we're ready. Finally it's here...
The sweet nectar, what she had been waiting months for, was finally right within her reach.
She was almost giddy.
But when he pulled back and stood straight up, he was looking at her with a kind of regard that she had never seen before. It was like he was questioning how on earth she could have actually thought that this was even remotely possible.
"You know," he said rather carelessly. "I don't really think that this is the time."
"What?" She asked, confused.
"Well, it's just that this doesn't seem to be the right time to start this."
"Not... the... right time?" she stammered.
"Yeah," he said rather absently, as if his decision was the most natural one in the world.
Then it hit her.
The realization.
That everything she was waiting for, all her hopes and dreams that were connected to this moment, this moment that had been in the making for 8 years, but had been defiantly on her mind for the past six months, were being delayed.
Delayed with no good reason, or at least any that she should think of.
And she was filled with a crushing sense of helplessness: the decision had been made, without her consultation, and she had no authority to change it.
"Ok," she said slowly, trying to wrap her head around what had just happened. "Do you have a better time then?"
"Well, I dunno for sure," he said matter-of-factly, as if he were reading it from a prepared statement. "Summer?"
"Summer?!" She squeaked.
"Oh c'mon, Eames. It's not as if you didn't see this coming. We've had plenty of opportunity to get things started and we always seem to be delayed somehow. And besides summer is only..." he counted on his fingers. "...Seven months away!"
She blinked at him.
"You're loyal aren't you? You'll wait for me, wont you?"
"Uh, I guess..." She stammered. "But wait! How do I know for sure that you'll actually be ready once summer rolls around? How do I know that there wont be some other delay?"
He thought for a moment. "Well, I guess you'll just have to trust me."
"You're not really leaving me with much to go on, though," she mumbled quietly, looking at the ground.
Hands in his pockets, he nudged her gently with his arms. "Hey now. Don't look at me like I just shot your dog."
She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Besides, it's not like summer is that far away."
He started walking away.
She turned to follow him, frustrated by the fact that she would follow him anywhere he went and would wait as long as it took.
And he knew it.
"You know, you're damn lucky I love you."
A/N : I'm sure we've all heard the news by now. Summer 2009. Whoo. Can't wait. *rolls eyes out of head*
Please don't be mad at Bobby (or me) for this, but he gets to play the part of TPTB. Lucky him.
