He’s never been more sure about anything in his life.
And yet, he hesitates momentarily.
He needs her there.
He needs her with him.
This time, just like always.
But he still pauses and pulls back and asks her: “Scully, are you sure?”
The question is almost lost in his throat. He needs her to say yes. He needs her to realize that all of their years together of emotion pouring out in this one final moment. The moment he’s been waiting for. All of their experiences together, all of their trials, accumulates to this very moment. Everything comes down to this time. This place. He takes a deep breath and looks into her eyes.
She can’t look at him.
Here. The journey's end.
Please. Please say yes. I’ve waited a long time.
She swallows heavily. Then -
“Yes Mulder, I’m sure.”
She’s never been more sure of anything in his life.
Slowly he opens Samantha’s diary.
Slowly he begins to read.
