So I am trying to decide whether I really want to pay 18 quid of money I don't have to go see Everything Everything in Britown in February. I remain undecided because love the band as I do, and I do, (what other band edits clips of themselves to Johnny Gill sawngs), I am not a fan of the live music experience.
It's really inexplicable to me the passionate fervour people have for live music as a rule.
Invariably I end up seated somewhere miles from stage, thus missing out on the sensation that I and those that I adore through their music are sharing the same space. Then miles from the faces of the band I receive the sensation that I am listening to songs assayed so badly/skewedly(a word) that they barely sound like the music I love, or else songs performed so perfectly/identically that I may as well have sat in doors listening to the mp3's on my laptop - (at least that way I wouldn't be minus 18 quid and could be writing porn at the same time).
Another thing leading me to conclude that I shouldn't go is the fact that it's an NME tour, not only do I hate the NME, what awful, pretentious douchebaggery that entire magazine is all magazines are, but as it's a showcase tour Everything Everything are sharing the stage with other bands.
So to help me decided, with the help of Spotify I've bean listening to these other bands.
Well one of them so far, Crystal Castles. They are awrite, sounding like a perfect merge of Pogo and Lycia and by that I mean a blend of two artists who, love them as I do, both make the same song several thousand times.
Most of Crystal Castles songs sound the same too.
Although Crystal Castles does have a song called "Pap Smear" which is also a little wonderous in it's glaciality so this counts in their favour a little. More importantly you know me, I'm a sucker for anything unexpected or rare and how many songs are called Pap Smear fer gehd's sake?
The real question I'm of course asking there is how many songs should be called Pap Smear??
Come on ladies, "Sing Your Life" as Mozzling would say.
Speaking of that cunt and why am I again? I went to see The Noise Next Door, an improvised sketch group who were meagnificent and good looking just like last time, the other day, (Kym got Siobhan and I in free at the Three and Ten), but I met someone else who volunteers at the club and accidentally told him he dressed like Morrissey.
I was trying to be admiring but he was not amused at all in the slightest.
That is apparently how I flirt with people, pissing them off.
Seriousy though stop flirting with teenage boys self, your obvious desire to emasculate them is showing...:(
Gahd I am so comfortable around this kid, I could stare in his eyes for hours and not feel the remotest desire to look away and I did everytime I spoke to him and the desire to impress him makes me so lightning quick and funny, genuinely hilarious and hilariously the best version of myself, but somehow, as is the case with jailbait, the chemistry between us goes from absolute flirting perfection to rivary, to his anger and our non connection so alarmingly quickly.
It's odd, the pieces fit ergonomically, comfortable then bam all of a sudden needles sticking up everywhere glass, jaggy horrible, well I can't use that can I badness erupts between us...
Anyway, Crystal Castles is...
ethereal, distant, occasionally chipmunk sounding word fragments for vocals ALWAYS accompanied by a boringly unchanging but bouncing beat, think late 90's popdance.
Yes so when they are being dancy their music sounds like Pogo, but Lycia otherwise and never any variety in that.
I kind of like Pogo and Lycia more.
Not to say that Crystal Castles aren't ok, but you know nothing too special at the moment. No songs standing really out, well "Pap Smear" but you know that's just really because of the name.
I am nothing if not a superficial hor.
Guess I will have to listen to the other artistes appearing at the NME thang - (they being Magnetic Man and The Vaccines) when I get back from work later and if they are really really good then I might well go to the show to show support for them and obviousy Everything Everything maybe, you know rather than for the experience of live music itself...
I'm sure Sibby would come with.
I love Sibby not so much when she is snubbing me for a day of watching Disney films but definitely when she has hilarious dreeeeeems about Adrien Brody
Everything Everything though maaaaaane.
They released a new video for "Photoshop Handsome", because they are re-releasing it but I think the old version was better. They've also re-recorded the song and I think it was better before. I mean it's a fucking cracking song, an even better concept and it deserves a second crack at attaining chart success but seriously I preferred it before. The bass and drums are more prominent than the guitaring in the old version and I am more into rhythm instruments. In the old version the tasty guitar line just peaks through it's lurks in the background almost overwhelmed also there is interesting synth noise in that one...it's just better, it sounds better...and the video is just better...it has random little drummer boy drumming and video game mock up and a really really sinister ending....
ITS JUST
BETTER.
Oh and the other day I actually found myself singing along to "Suffragette City" by David Bowie in a manner that suggested I actually quite like it. I am disappointed in myself, I had decided that I didn't like his music.
FAIL.
Also I have found a way to not pay for Spotify and not get ads. Just skip to the next song before the end of the one you're listening to, if you leave no gap there is no room for ads. It's hard but it's werth it.
IM A SCHWEET CHEAP CHEAPSKATE FROM TRANSEXXUAL TRANSYLVANIA.
I should make Siobhan watch Rocky Horror shouldn't I?
We know the answer to that.
I should also work on not being a robot. I'm not a nice person because I lack the innocence to be.
Other people do things with an openness that died in me long ago. I analyse too much I am too fraid of failiure. Cynical without the awareness that I am. I want to trust and love or try not to trust and love and do so helplessly like other people do, but I'm too sterile and bland and BORING.
Always on the safe side....always....so fucking cautious...and sensible...
I AM A LOGICICLE
Oh ok Crystal Castles I like "Doe Deer" too....I think it's because the drumbeat it a bit different that ALL THE REST OF THE ALBUM. It has a different energy and by that I mean any energy at all.
Work, work, workingtons.
Gonna be on self service aaalll night. I fucking love manning the self service tills, I like not having to talk to people or really for the most part deal with them. I can just stand there and think my thinky thoughts.
And by that I mean imagine Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield having sex.
Speaking of sexxi things...
Worthing in all the misery of winter.
Manineednewicons.
Aaaaand decided to download this album based on it's artwork...
It was an A+ life decision as well you might have guessed... Maan I am loving the funk....it's so fucking funktabulous....
Especially "Serious Business" - which is so energetic right from the "HEY!" that begins it and the melancholy "The Waiting Game"....I also love how often I've called them Starship Troopers whilst talking about them.
excellente. Also Kirsty MaColl, too immense for words...
